Position Overview

Tends a battery of machines that convey, wash, crush, and separate quarried stone to produce sand and gravel.

Roles and Responsibilities

(Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Maintains the required quality and quantity of productions.
  • Checks load for proper raw materials, removes materials that may impede production.
  • Clean work areas, shovel dirt, muck, stone, gravel from around conveyors, under belt tail pulleys, or shovel material, to ensure peak performance of the operating plant.
  • Adjust controls on panel, control board or computer to heat, dry and mix ingredients, such as hot AC oil, sand, stone, and mineral filler to produce asphalt paving materials.
  • Adjusts all equipment in the plant as needed to insure maximum production of quality products.
  • Observe gauges, dials, and operation of machinery to ensure conformance to processing specifications.
  • Makes repairs on equipment, replacing work or damaged parts.
  • Assists welders and maintenance mechanics in making major repairs and overhauls.
  • Communicates to supervisor of any incident of recurring equipment malfunction, poor quality raw material or production.
  • Communicate with and cooperate with truckers and customers as required.
  • Cleans and lubricates equipment.
  • Perform daily pre-shift procedures.
  • Replace or assist other workers as needed or directed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Perform all work in a safe, efficient manner, following routine and all standards of performance.
  • Wear a hardhat, safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, gloves, hearing protection and respirator as needed.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

Required
  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or 3 years+ of practical work experience.

Preferred
  • 5 + years of practical work experience in the asphalt plant field.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications.

Work Requirements
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Ability to work scheduled overtime and weekends and occasional night shifts.
  • Available for emergency overtime when the need arises. This may include occasional weekend hours.
  • Ability to travel to various job sites several times a week.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in reports, manuals and regulations.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and work well with other personnel.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

This job will require both office work and field work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
