Job Purpose

Coordinate the collection of samples from production batches. Perform a wide variety of testing processes to measure product's physical characteristics. Use precise testing instruments. Handles incident investigations related to assigned customer complaints. Issues goods and confirms quantities from production batches.

Following established procedures and guidelines, test and conduct routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, in-process, and finished product, using variety of testing devices and procedures to maintain product quality.

Must be able to understand and comply with HSE standards, AkzoNobel Life Saving Rules, waste management system, Product Stewardship procedure, distribution and road safety requirements, incident reporting, product SDS and proper PPE related HMIS system. Must actively participate in safety programs and be able to perform daily checklists and 5S participation.

Key Accountabilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty safely, satisfactorily, and in a timely manner.

  • Must follow all established safety rules and procedures
  • Perform testing processes on production batches to measure product's physical or chemical characteristics. Tests include viscosity, weight per unit of volume, flow, gloss, color characteristics, and various other similar tests
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment
  • Maintain records and charts for all products that are checked by the individual
  • Record and report observations or test results in the appropriate QC card or file written legibly
  • Work with the QC manager, production staff, and development staff to evaluate production or field related problems
  • Help identify potential causes of complaints
  • Any other duties as specified by supervision and management
  • In addition to performing the above technician responsibilities, a level 3 technician must be able to perform the following:
    • Ability to run all analytical equipment (GC/FTIR/Karl Fisher)
    • Ability to evaluate incoming raw material from tankers
    • Ability to train all technicians on available tasks
    • Lead in Root Cause Analysis investigations for complaints and distressed batches
    • Completed all basic formal courses for Batch maker/Adjuster training
    • Completed Paint and Coating essentials and RDI shadowing
    • Advanced level of Microsoft Office skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel)
    • Support and fill in for team lead as needed
    • Knowledge of SAP
    • Other duties as assigned

Experience & Education

Education
  • Minimum of 2 years as QC Tech II
  • Preferred bachelor's degree in chemistry or science with 3 years of relevant laboratory experience
  • Microsoft Office skills required (Outlook, Word, Excel).Excel skill level intermediate to advanced
Experience
  • Knowledge of chemical composition, structure, reactions as it applies to production techniques
  • Near vision- ability to read labels and see details up close with or without corrective lenses
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow safety instructions and safety guidelines
  • Must be able to score a 32 or lower on a Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Color test
  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities
  • Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment with exposure to chemical agents
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to use equipment to perform duties of job safely and effectively
  • Knowledge of quality principles and apply to daily task
  • Knowledge of basic math including adding, subtracting, multiplication, division, fractions and measurements
  • Ability to watch gauges, dials, or display screens to ensure proper operation of equipment
  • Problem solving and critical thinking acumen- noticing a problem and giving input on how to solve it or identify root cause
