Position Summary

Under immediate direction of the Quality Control Supervisor, the Quality Control Sample Tech collects samples from various points in the production process and assists the QC Chemist on shift.

Requirements

  • Collect samples of raw materials, fuel and product for quality analysis on a timely basis from sample points throughout the facility
  • Assists in the preparation of samples for analysis
  • Maintenance of sampling equipment
  • Learn to perform basic lab tests such as Blaine and wet sieve analysis
  • Clean assigned lab and production areas
  • Enter test results into computer as appropriate
  • Inventory and order consumable items used in sampling
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A high degree of manual dexterity and accuracy required
  • Some college preferred
  • Cement Manufacturing or similar heavy industrial experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language
  • Ability to reason through operational issues as they arise and resolve or communicate to others
  • Must develop basic knowledge of plant operations as they affect quality of product
  • Must have general knowledge of calculators and computers
  • Preferred knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Ability to perform basic math functions
  • Must have a basic understanding of the plant operations
  • Must have excellent work and safety record
  • Must understand Lockout/Tagout procedure and safety requirements
Physical Requirements
  • Must work rotating shift
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds of weight up/ 2 flights of stairs 2 times per day
  • Must be able to work at heights of 50 ft. or more
  • Must be able lift and carry 20 pounds for up to 200 yards 12 times per day and up/down up to 3 flights of stairs each trip
  • Physical requirements also include visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, climbing on equipment, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, and squatting to perform the essential functions
  • Must be able to use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
Working Conditions

Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, and rain). Must be able to work in noisy environment with noise levels up to 120 dB. Must be able to work in environments including vibration and mechanical and electrical hazards. Must be able to work any assigned shift. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDS\u2019s)
