The North America Product Safety Regulatory Affairs Researcher - Food Contact has an in-depth knowledge of the relevant regulatory/food contact landscape. They act in leadership roles by leading cross functional activities/teams, identify and implement areas of improvement and coach junior team members. Resolving and responding to non-standard customer enquiries in an accurate and timely fashion. This role is specialized in leading the US and Canada food contact business needs and will be located at the Strongsville Technology Center in Ohio.

Key Accountabilities

  • Food Contact Team Lead for ICO-Packaging Coatings NA; responsible for the collection of information necessary to file FCNs for the FDA approval of new products.
  • Develop and maintain food contact records and serve as resource on the FDA status of raw materials and products used by the business.
  • Active participation in advocacy and lobbying activities specific to food contact such as trade associations, consortia or with authorities.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant regulations (North America regulations e.g. FDA, Health Canada, TSCA, CEPA) and ensure transfer and retention of knowledge.
  • Awareness of broader regulatory landscape impacting the business.
  • Support compliance for polymers (for all BUs).
  • Communicate effectively both internally (other departments) and externally (Customers, regulators, suppliers, trade associations).
  • Maintain a good understanding of customer needs and relevant regulatory topics affecting the ICO-packaging business.
  • Identify new regulatory developments and trends and market needs/opportunities, translate these into opportunities for own area/domain and share these with other professionals.
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements to practical implications for the business.
  • Identify and contribute to the development and continuous improvement of standard procedures (eg SOPs, ISO procedures).
  • Ensure validity and accuracy of data.
  • Shares own expertise and knowledge within the PSRA community and with other functions (RD&I, Marketing & Sales). Gives presentations on the expertise area on behalf of the company or on behalf of associations at conferences.
  • Leads complex projects (e.g. regional registration of new substance) and coordinates the activities with various functions. Monitors and assess regulatory requirements for specific FDA end-use applications. Develops and maintains relationships with authorities and trade associations.

  • Establishing project and process to enable placing of product on market
  • Establishes effective communication plan for projects to both peers and upper management.

Education & Experience

  • BS in science discipline required (e.g. toxicology, ecotoxicology, biochemistry, or closely related discipline)
  • BS or PhD in chemistry preferred
  • Experience in Regulatory or RD&I role or other relevant function.
  • Organized and a strong attention to detail
  • 5 years relevant experience
  • Data management and analysis
  • Experience of leading project teams
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office
