Overview

We are seeking a Program Director, Philanthropic Engagement with at least 7 years of experience to help us fulfill our mission of helping people achieve education and workplace success.

The Program Director, Philanthropic Engagement plays a critical role in leading ACT's foundation grants profile, including grant writing and reporting, prospecting new opportunities and securing resources necessary to support our mission of closing gaps in equity and achievement.

What you will be working on:

  • Lead and support all phases of the grant cultivation process for ACT teams, including but not limited to: identifying potential funders, refining grant project ideas, facilitating funder conversations with ACT subject matter experts, writing grant proposals with consistent narratives that are aligned with ACT's mission and goals, and communicating grant success.
  • Develop resources, research funding sources, and prepare and administer contract documents.
  • Provide grant cultivation technical assistance to internal ACT grant seekers and external grant seekers developing joint grant proposals.
  • Research and identify funding sources in partnership with Center for Equity in Learning (CEL) team members and other ACT Team members to prospect new opportunities and coordinate grant cultivation activities.
  • Track and manage grant deadlines, proposal processes, incoming grant information and reporting requirements
  • Build, integrate, and/or advance ACT's equity goals and strategies into grant projects
  • Develop and provide internal reports that identify grant milestones against goals, including but not limited to: budget reports created in partnership with ACT's Finance team
  • Deepen ACT's relationships with current funders and establish new relationships with potential corporate and philanthropic funders
  • Provide progress reports to funders for grants awarded and ensure funder's policies and legal requirements are followed
  • Write blogs and/or press releases, in collaboration with ACT's communications divisions, for internal and external audiences, regarding ACT grant awards and lessons learned once grants close

This could be the job for you if you have (minimum requirements):
  • Strong proofreading skills and are detailed oriented
  • A clear understanding of the grant lifecycle process and knowledge of grant writing, grant making techniques, current grant trends, and philanthropic best practices
  • An equity-focus with ability to articulate how racial and income equity intersect with education and workforce sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience writing racial/income equity focused grant proposals, and/or advancing racial/income equity-focused projects, policies, programs, and/or communication efforts
  • Demonstrated time management skills with an ability to lead multiple projects with competing priorities; (Position may require flexibility with hours to meet grant deadlines.)
  • A solid philanthropic awareness with significant relationships with and/or knowledge of corporate and independent funders supporting education and workforce projects
  • A collaborative workstyle and ability to partner effectively with individuals inside and outside of ACT
  • An open mindset and seek to engage with diverse perspectives and build a sense of belonging
  • Effective communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels in the organization and in front of both small and large audiences
  • Clear decision-making capacity, using of sound judgement and data analysis to make informed decisions
  • Strong information literacy, using subject matter knowledge, creativity, and investigative skills to effectively acquire and apply information
  • A commitment to optimization, applying continuous improvement techniques to existing processes and programs
  • A passion for innovation, working with a team to develop ideas that are new, better, diverse, and/or unique
  • An ability to manage change, navigating positively in an unpredictable environment
  • An ability to multi-task, proactively anticipate and act on information, complete tasks with little to no direction, and practice independent initiative
  • A curious mind, remaining current in areas of grant writing, philanthropy, grant cultivation and philanthropic outcomes in the education and workforce arena, while also seeking to expand and grow skills
  • A sense of personal accountability, taking responsibility and following through on commitments; acknowledging and learning from mistakes without blaming others; and recognizing the impact of one's behavior
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related area of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience with grant writing and administration
  • Significant experience managing programs or projects with multiple, complex components
  • Experience with office productivity tools, preferably MS Office suite

It's a plus if you have:
  • Writing and speaking fluency in Spanish
  • Experience in or with education, workforce, and/or ed tech industries
  • Independent foundation and/or corporate, federal, or state government grant writing experience
  • Strong data tracking and analysis skills - able to identify trends and lessons learned from grant portfolio data
