Job Summary: The Dental Hygiene Program Director works collaboratively with both the School Dean/Associate Dean and Department Chair and is accountable for operations to the School Dean/Associate Dean and for curriculum to the Department Chair within the School of Health Sciences.

The Program Director is responsible for all aspects of the program, including the management, administration, continuous review and analysis, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree and 3 years of experience*
*Or a combination of experience education sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licensing Requirements: Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) or Dentist
Dentist or Current PA Dental Hygiene license or eligible for PA license
Current PA Local Anesthesia Permit or eligible for PA permit.
Valid driver's license.

Hiring Range: $57,400 - $108,555

STANDARD DUTIES

Program Administration

  • Provides oversight for the daily operations of the program and the on-campus dental clinic.
  • Organizes, administers, reviews, develops and assures program effectiveness in collaboration with the academic administrator.
  • Maintains accreditation standards.
    • Operates the program under current accreditation standards.
    • Coordinates site visit preparations.
    • Writes and submits initial and continuing accreditation and annual reports.
    • Conducts, analyzes and maintains program resource information.
    • Administers employer, graduate surveys, student program resource surveys and personnel resource surveys.
    • Conducts student exit interviews.
  • Performs program review materials and completes other accreditation documents as required.
    • Maintains current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional education/development.
    • Maintains professional licensure and/or certifications.
    • Oversees discipline policies and procedures.
  • Chairs the Admission/Selection committee for the program.
    • Mandatory information sessions.
    • Application sessions.
    • Notifies applicants applying to clinical programs of their admission status.
    • Annual update of criteria.
    • Student interviews (If applicable).
  • Provides academic support for advisors, counselors, and students who are:
    • Seeking admission to the program.
    • Withdrawing from the program.
    • Beginning studies following the acceptance process.
    • Seeking major change, transfer and advance placement.
    • Graduates seeking additional courses.
    • Seeking career information.
    • Conducts and participates in ongoing programmatic assessment according to college policy (i.e. Systematic collection, review, and use of information to improve student learning, educational quality and program effectiveness).
  • Maintains Curriculum Management Plan and/or Master Plan of Education.
  • Participates in the budget process including planning and capital requests, manages operational budget, and day to day transfers.
  • Establishes and oversees the program advisory committee.
  • Establishes and maintains professional networks with community leaders and organizations in the program director's profession.
  • Maintains information regarding advanced or alternative schooling options.
  • Coordinates schedules at multiple sites.
  • Meets with administrative level supervisor to apprise them of the program.
  • Processes payroll as needed.
  • Reviews and verifies program related material for submission to administration.
  • Oversees relationships with external partners including Clinical Contracts and Memorandum of Understanding in conjunction with appropriate college personnel.

Faculty Leadership

  • Provides leadership and faculty supervision of program faculty.
    • Reviews applications, course qualify, orient and mentor faculty.
    • Completes peer evaluations for assigned tenure-track faculty.
    • Prepares class schedules in conjunction with the campus deans and staffs faculty accordingly.
    • Submits performance feedback to Dean/Associate Dean and Department chair on program faculty.
    • Performs classroom and/or clinical observations as needed.
    • Orders course material and works in coordination with the campus bookstores.
    • Verifies continuing education for faculty.
    • Develops and implements the clinical education program.
    • Chairs and conducts program faculty meetings on a regular basis.
    • Conducts clinical instructor/preceptor workshops/meetings.
    • Conducts in-service education for faculty as needed.
    • Develops and revises courses to reflect changes in standards and practices using Form A and B335's.
    • Recommends termination for poor performing faculty.
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Works collaboratively with HACC internal groups and external affiliates.
    • Discusses program with counselors and advisors College wide to maintain consistency.
    • Attends Health Career Focus group and Department meetings.
    • Assists with credit/non-credit collaboration as needed.
    • Serves on campus, college-wide, ad-hoc, and/or health career committees.
    • Updates program information in conjunction with the Department Chair.
    • Attends marketing events and open houses. Participates in college and community service activities.
    • Works in collaboration with the HACC Foundation/Perkins on Grant writing and management of funding.
    • Works collaboratively with other college groups including program directors.
    • Collaborates with program faculty and administration at all campuses to maintain consistency of program curriculum and policies including handbooks, course outlines, objectives, program information, lab policies, procedures, textbooks and supplies.
    • Collaborates with School of Health Sciences/HACC Specialist in the communication of program information to prospective students, parents, other HACC departments, high school counselors, and other communities of interest.

Students

  • Supports student success and responds to and works to resolve student issues.
    • Attends marketing events and open houses.
    • Participates in college and community service activities.
    • Conducts program orientations.
    • Maintains appropriate student records as required by the college, accrediting, licensure and registry agencies.
    • Handles complaints regarding the program.
    • Handles disciplinary actions with students.
    • Oversees program celebration ceremonies.
    • Reviews admissions documentation for clearance to the program.

Teaching

  • Provides teaching excellence in the program. o Teaches courses in the program. o Travels, as needed, to clinical sites to meet with students, preceptors, and administrators as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Prepares and provides instruction for given course load Supervises and provides feedback to employees and assigns work.
  • Manages operational budget and day to day transfers for assigned campus.
  • Oversees a department or function and provides leadership and direction
  • Coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct academic courses according to approved course syllabus.
  • Provide high quality and consistent academic instruction to students.
  • Provide high quality academic support and advising to students.
  • Keep students informed and updated concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
  • Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours.
  • Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled.
  • Organize and maintain class work and assignments.
  • Strive for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the college.
  • Be thoroughly familiar and comply with all college policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. · Interact with and respond to students in an effective and professional manner to maintain a positive learning experience and environment.
  • Work in a professional, collegial, and team-oriented manner.
