Job Summary/Basic Function:
A full-time Professional Lab Manager position is available in the flow cytometry core lab at Boise State University under the supervision of Dr. Denise Wingett. Primary responsibilities will include the daily operation, maintenance, experimental design, data acquisition, analysis, and data interpretation of a fluorescent activated cell sorter and flow cytometry multi-user core facility (https://www.boisestate.edu/biology/research/flow-cytometry-core-facility/). Serves in a position that enables an individual with their Ph.D. to continue their training as a researcher and gain skills and experience that will prepare them for their research career in academia or elsewhere.

Department Overview:
Interested applicants in joining this interdisciplinary team are encouraged to apply for the position of Professional Lab Manager. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and quality control of a fluorescent activated cell sorter (FACS) research facility that supports faculty research in the broad area of biomolecular science. Responsibilities of this position include data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. It is also expected that the individual filling this position will be active in research in an area(s) such as nanobiotechnology, cancer research, or respiratory disease. It is expected over time the individual will assist with manuscript preparation and grant writing, and will assist with teaching workshops on flow cytometry.

Level Scope:
Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with an in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of areas typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. Functions with a high degree of autonomy.

Essential Functions:
• Daily Management: The routine operation, maintenance, and quality control, experimental design, data acquisition, analysis, and data interpretation generated by instruments in the flow cytometry/fluorescence-activated cell sorting facility.
• Fiscal Management: Responsible for the fiscal management of the facility with supervisor oversight
• Research Management: Expected to contribute to team research efforts
• Teaching workshops on the use of flow cytometry/cell sorting in research applications, schedule and
organize lab training sessions for instrument users
• Direct the implementation and testing of the flow cytometry/cell sorting facility to support faculty and student research activities affiliated with the Biomolecular Sciences Graduate Programs (https://www.boisestate.edu/biomolecularsciences/)

35% of the time the Position must:
• Contribute to the PI's team research efforts in immunology and/or nanotechnology in biomedical
applications, cancer research, and/or respiratory disease research
• Assisting PI: Grant writing and manuscript preparation
• 5% other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Basic

The selected candidate must be able to meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the proposed term of the appointment.

• Possess the appropriate background in experimental design and analysis

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Biological Sciences/Microbiology/Immunology/Molecular Cell Biology or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred experience with the operation and, maintenance, of a fluorescent activated cell sorter, and flow cytometers is preferred. Research experience in immunology, nanobiology, respiratory disease, microbiology, or cancer biology is a plus

The salary range is $48068 - $52,354 depending upon qualifications.
