Primary Purpose

The production manager is responsible for the production and output for CCM Polyiso. Major accountabilities include safety, product quality and quantity, personnel hiring, development and training, departmental budgets, cost reduction and control, teamwork development, clear and effective communication, and maintaining a union-free environment. Position also serves as a key interface between manufacturing plants and with all supporting departments R&D, Maintenance, Technical Services, Quality Assurance, Central Engineering, Scheduling, Shipping/Warehouse, and Sales & Marketing. The incumbent directly supervises production shift supervisors and the quality department.

Essential Functions

Personnel Management

* Leadership is required to counsel coach and develop not only direct reports but to accomplish the same both directly and indirectly for the hourly positions. Training needs are continually reviewed and programs identified and implemented to address needs. As weaknesses within the production group are identified, strategies are developed in order to strengthen the critical positions. Performance appraisals are conducted for the direct report positions and will review all the hourly positions as well.
* Staffing requirements are established as schedule changes warrant and are continually re-evaluated to accommodate changes in the business climate. Participate in a variety of meetings and problem solving groups to ensure they are properly resourced and that effective use of time is occurring.
* Continually interface with departmental personnel, as well as supporting departments, to ensure that a team-building atmosphere is being enhanced and fostered at all levels and positions.
* Major participant in new hire screening and interviewing process. Also involved in interviewing and selection of crew leader positions.

Projects

* Provide the necessary leadership and direction for initiating and implementing a variety of projects. Projects typically will impact the operation from a productivity, inventory or quality standpoint.
* Initial justification is provided by thoroughly reviewing the impact on the operations and coordinating the overall project scope with affected departments including R & D, Central Engineering, Sales and Marketing as well as all support groups.

Cost and Budget Control

* Establish annual expense budgets including labor and supplies measuring in the millions of dollars. Appropriate justifications are provided to reflect proposed changes or requested levels.
* Budget results are reviewed monthly to analyze variances and determine necessary adjustments. Daily decisions concerning controllable costs are made to reflect the proper balance between production requirements and budget allowances.
* Support for company cost reduction program is provided through production's implementation of projects originating in other departments as well as initiating projects of a cost reduction nature such as expense control, methods improvement, capacity or machine improvement.

Administrative

* Review daily communications in the form of e-mails, phone calls and voice mails.
* Review an assortment of daily, weekly, and monthly reports and take appropriate action on same to maintain and improve daily operation. Reports include daily production levels, quality levels including defects and scrap, overall plant schedules, manpower reports including overall requirements, vacation, absentee, and a variety of SFIS, Wonderware, Hunter Analyzer reports some of which are of an ad hoc nature.
* Attend meetings as required to provide proper interface with various company support and staff groups. Information must be provided relative to the capabilities and capacities of the production department so that informed decisions can be made and the staff departments can establish effective strategies.
* Meet with Vendors in relations to the process and cost savings initiatives.

Working Conditions

Work Environment: About 85% of work time is spent in an office environment both inside and outside of the manufacturing environment. The other 15% is spent on the plant floor. Crisis situations routinely occur and require a fast pace which can be stressful. Priorities change rapidly and require constant re-prioritization of tasks and projects.

Time Worked: Hours Worked -Roughly 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with other hours as needed. The heavy workload and need to interface with a three/four shift operation requires hours beyond the normal business hours. Days of Week Worked -Usually Monday through Friday, weekends are required when needed to meet the production schedule or personal workload demands it. Comments - Beyond the hours and days listed above, this position requires the incumbent to be "on-call". The 24-hour operation involves

Desired Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in business or technical area preferred

Experience: Five years progressively responsible experience in a urethane foam, extrusion, lamination or plastics manufacturing environment with three years in at least a supervisory capacity. Experience should include interacting with a variety of personnel levels and work teams and should exhibit the ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects and priorities.
