SUMMARY

The Extrusion Operator IV (Lead Operator) Proficient in the understanding of manufacturing equipment with a thorough knowledge of the operations.  Trains department employees in the set-up, operation, adjustment and maintenance of production equipment.  May be expected to fill in during the absence of the Shift Supervisor.  Able to direct work activities, schedule employees, prepare necessary documentation. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitors line operators in the set-up, operation and maintenance of machinery.
 
  • Assists supervisor in directing daily activities to promote and maintain a clean, safe and efficient work area.
 
  • Troubleshoots equipment and makes appropriate machine repairs/adjustments.
 
  • Assists in the training of production operators on both lines to ensure proper processes, protocols, and completion of related paperwork.
 
  • Scans product and material into LN.
 
  • Coordinates activity between various shifts to ensure smooth transition of duties.
 
  • Performs quality checks and inspections related to operations by use of vision system and other equipment.
 
  • Monitors production output, assists in the scheduling of employees.
 
  • Performs the operations on both the R and S lines.
 
  • Reviews machine output against production demands and researches ways to improve productivity.
 
  • Assists with supervisor duties in the absence of the Shift Supervisor.
 
  • Reviews and ensures that all data and production reports are complete.
 
  • Follows and participates in plant safe housekeeping guidelines designed to ensure a safe work environment. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Successful completion of all forming, printing and padding (if applicable) skills assessments.  Demonstrated leadership.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to print simple sentences and legibly complete reports and time cards. Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.  Read, analyze and interpret technical procedures and manufacturing terminology.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

OSHA approved forklift and clamp certification

CPR and first-aid certified – Fire Brigade Member

The employee is occasionally exposed humid conditions; heights; fumes or airborne particles; toxic, flammable or caustic chemicals; skin irritants; outside weather conditions; high heat; and risk of static shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.  Employee will be required to fill in for supervisor in an absence.
