Process Improvement Engineer

Huntsman's Advanced Materials Division is now searching for a new Process Improvement Engineer for our plant located in Rock Hill, SC.

As the Process Improvement Engineer, you will:

  • Interact with operators, mechanics, and electricians on a regular basis, constantly learning and teaching, to elevate the entire site to step-function changes in world class positioning.
  • Provide technical support to production:
  • Initiate OEE metrics and recommend / lead RCAs to eliminate major and repeat causes of efficiency loss, scrap, and downtime.
  • Propose and implement projects to optimize unit operations and improve safety while following MOC guidelines.
  • Provide technical support to Project Engineering group in the development of project scopes and equipment / instrument sizing and specification.
  • Participate in site-wide improvement initiatives by performing engineering studies and providing technical and project support as needed.
  • Develop strategies to strive for the highest standards of customer service and drive continuous improvement in the reliability and capability of processes and products.
  • New product introductions - Assess/Assist in scale up of NPI's from lab to pilot scale to production scale.

Skills and experiences required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in chemical engineering, with Five (5) years minimum experience, preferable in process and production engineering.
  • Practical application of Process Safety, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
  • Experience with OEE, continuous improvement and Lean tools.
  • Use of LIMS, Pi, and other math/engineering programs as needed.
  • Displays initiative, is an agent of change, and self-motivated to exceed expectations.
  • Must demonstrate effective, logical, independent, and superior engineering analysis and reasoning capabilities.
  • Presentation skills, both oral and written including communications to personnel at all levels of the Huntsman Corporation and third parties.
  • Requires solid leadership skills and the ability to manage both vertically and horizontally.
  • Strong communication skills to interface with all levels of the organization - shop floor through management.
  • Conceptual thinking- identify underlying issues in complex situations.
  • Decision Making - ability to make swift decisions, based on solid information and taking into account the consequences; Customer Focus; Influencing; Personal Conviction.
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for success.

Working conditions:
  • Will frequently need to be on the production floor to observe operations, interview production personnel, collect data, etc.
