Position Summary:

In this role as a Process Development Engineer 2, use sound and proven engineering principles to assist in designing and developing processes and requirements.

  • The projects and activities will focus on Dexcom's future finished goods processing and systems technologies.
  • Working as a member of a technology team, collaborate with other engineers, management, and operators.
  • Lead efforts to prove out manufacturing and automation processes to achieve design requirements specified by R&D and explore and evaluate new technologies and concepts through analysis, prototyping, fixture design, and experimentation.
  • Transfer and scale up new products from R&D to Operations.
  • Involvement may begin from feasibility at vendors to full scale manufacturing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, document and optimize new manufacturing process steps and operating procedures for new stations, equipment, and processes within a regulated quality system.
  • Demonstrate hands-on process understanding and provide guidance and training with pilot plant operators on engineering level builds.
  • Design and develop test methods to meet process goals from concept to implementation and training with test lab technicians.
  • Implement, characterize, and optimize processes, mechanical tests, and fixtures/jigs for assembly, inspection, and test through implementation of measurement systems, part inspections, and process capability analysis.
  • Assist in scaling up equipment and processes from prototype to pilot to full scale manufacturing.
  • Provide design and assembly requirements working within scope as determined by business and schedule needs.
  • Plan and perform Design of Experiments (DOE) to characterize and determine optimal processing methods.
  • Support IQ, OQ, PQ protocols, test protocols, and test method validations.
  • Execute protocols and write reports to ensure equipment/processes meet part/assembly specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify process risks and track mitigations Perform statistically robust and industry standard analysis of data, and present findings to technical teams.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines and provide updates and feedback to project leadership.
  • This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven track record of running self-directed projects, maintaining aggressive timelines, and executing in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience developing and executing IQ/OQ/PQ
  • Proficiency with data analysis methods and statistical analysis software (i.e. JMP, Minitab or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in the use of SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
  • Knowledge of high reliability, high volume manufacturing processes and designs
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity/uncertainty and a willingness to try new/challenging things
  • Detail oriented with strong time management skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and conflict management skills

Functional Description

Develops new or modified process formulations, defines processing or handling equipment requirements and specifications, and reviews processing techniques and methods applied in the manufacture, fabrication, and evaluation of products. Involvement may begin at any step from pilot plant to full-scale manufacturing. Coordinates design requirement review with appropriate engineering/scientific personnel to ensure compatibility of processing methods. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate limits and variables for process or material specifications. May conceive and plan projects involving definition and selection of new concepts, equipment automation technology, and approaches in the processing or development of new or improved processes.

  • Possesses a high level of theoretical knowledge. Ability to deliver technical ideas that have an impact on the objectives. Understands organizational and functional processes and policies aligned to the technical and business goals.

Scope

  • Demonstrates technical proficiency. Works on moderately complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation. Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Interprets data and draws conclusions regarding results used in presented material.

Judgement

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 2-5 years related experience or Masters degree and 0-2 years equivalent experience.

Workplace Type

  • The Workplace Type for this role is Assigned Desk. Based on the nature of your role you will have an assigned desk or office located at a Dexcom site and should plan to be onsite approximately 4-5 days per week.
