Position Description :

The Fashion Merchandising Program at Texas State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track postdoctoral scholar. This is a twelve-month appointment under the supervision of Associate Professor Cosette Joyner Martinez. This postdoctoral scholar will support Dr. Martinez's research about the spiritual experiences and motivations that emerge in dress habits, particularly those that encourage sustainable consumption practice with clothing. This work includes the examination of the spiritual roots of sustainable consumption movements such as voluntary simplicity and minimalism and the exploration of consumptive paradigms like mindful consumption and Buddhist economics. Dr. Martinez has a particular interest in the use of spiritual practice as a channel to sustainable consumption, such as mindfulness meditation or other spiritual rituals that encourage personal clarity and intentional behavior. The responsibility of the position involves data collection, data analyses, preparation of publications, assistance in grant writing, and conference presentations. Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctoral degree in fashion or a related discipline (PhD);
  • Substantive knowledge and background in the field of consumer behavior;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and disseminate research results via peer-reviewed outlets (publications, presentation, etc.);
  • Proficiency in qualitative research methods and analysis (grounded theory, ethnography, narrative inquiry, netnography, photo elicitation etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting research in the area of sustainable clothing consumption;
  • Expertise with innovative approaches to qualitative inquiry
