Overview
The CCHALES Research Collective at San Diego State University is focused on examining the systems, structures, and practices within higher education that hinder racial equity. We conduct policy-relevant and practice-focused scholarship to improve the conditions, experiences, and outcomes for racially-minoritized students, especially in the community college context. We are scholars of color making a difference in our communities, education, and society at large. We give back to the public education systems that shaped our trajectory and helped us become who we are. The CCHALES Research Collective is seeking to add a postdoctoral scholar to support the Student Equity and Action project, a grant-funded study, that examines the implementation of racial equity efforts across 17 California's Community Colleges and supports the institutional leaders with technical support, professional learning opportunities, and development evaluation.

The postdoctoral position will begin in Summer 2023. It is a temporary, fixed-term, one-year position with the potential of reappointment for a second year. The candidate should have earned a doctorate by the time of employment. The candidate will have active mentoring opportunities from faculty involved with the study as well as opportunities to attend workshops and conferences. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar salary is $65,000 and is a full-time benefited position.

Applicants should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, one sample publication, and contact information for three references. Letter of interest should include: your research agenda, how your work ties to the mission of CCHALES and the Student Equity and Action project, why you are interested in this position, the expertise you bring to the project, and how this position will further your research and career goals.

Responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will work directly with Dr. Eric R. Felix, assistant professor in the Administration, Rehabilitation, and Postsecondary Education Department. The scholar will have the opportunity to collaborate and contribute to all project activities. The study is designed with an actionable research approach that includes working closely with campus equity advocates and instigating organizational change that leads to improved outcomes for racially minoritized students. The ideal candidate for this position is someone that seeks to use research insight to drive actionable practice, understands the community college context, understands the educational policy process, and is committed to creating more just and equitable institutions of higher education.
