  • This position will focus on exploratory biology, specifically host-pathogen interactions of parasite/helminth diseases with an objective of identifying and validating therapeutic, vaccine and biomarker targets.
  • The work will involve application of cell biology, tissue culture, flow cytometry, immune-histochemistry and microscopy/imaging to validate/localize pathogen targets and host responses.
  • Work closely with the flow cytometry core team to provide expert advice/service in flow cytometry-related experimental design and to implement quality controls to assure high scientific standards in service.
  • Characterize altered immune cells relevant to disease targets and conduct flow cytometry characterization, sorting and gene expression analysis.
  • Will develop, adapt, and implement new flow-cytometry-related research techniques and protocols.
  • Work closely with the Mechanistic Biology, Genetics/Bioinformatics, and Parasitology, groups to provide expert advice/service in experimental design and to implement quality controls to assure high scientific standards.

  • Hands-on experience in cellular assay development and proficiency with standard assay formats (e.g. flow cytometry, imaging, luminescence-/fluorescence-based cellular readouts, immunohistochemistry) in primary cell culture systems.
  • Experience utilizing flow cytometry data analysis tools such as Flo-jo, FCS Express or equivalent.
  • Experience with the principles of targeted cell population sorting and recovery using flow, column or magnetic based separation techniques.
  • Experience with intracellular staining; multi-color flow cytometry data analysis and interpretation; live cell fluorescent imaging techniques (Incucyte, confocal microscopy) or non-traditional applications of flow cytometry such as microparticle or microorganism analysis would be an advantage.
  • Strong practical expertise or familiarity in a range of other immunological techniques (in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro) including cell culture (primary and cell lines), antibody and cytokine ELISAs, ELISpots, use of reporter cell assays would be an advantage.
