Our Neurosurgery Physician Assistant (PA)s oversee the care of inpatients while our residents and attendings are in the OR. Typically, three to four PAs work per day to cover ~40 patients. The PAs complete all transfer orders from the unit as well as discharges, so are the primary resources for ensuring patient flow between and out of units occurs efficiently. The PA Works with neurosurgery physician(s), residents and advanced practice, aiding with patient evaluation, including completion of patient histories, physical examinations, and consultations. Participates in the coordination of discharge planning with all members of the healthcare team. The Physician Assistant will provide comprehensive medical evaluation of patients - physical examinations, ordering and reviewing diagnostic tests, formulating treatment plans, rounding on patients, coordinating continuum of care, prescribing appropriate treatments and medications, acting as liaison between office staff, physicians, and patients.

Shifts: Full-time 40 hours per week; 10-hour day shifts

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistance Program
  • Licensed by the MD Board of Physicians
  • Board certified or (certification eligible for new Graduate PA) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Active MD CDS and Federal DEA licensure
  • BLS Health Care Provider CPR certification required: AHA or Red Cross accepted
  • No PA work experience required; 1 year of related Neuro experience preferred
  • Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership Systems (PECOS) enrollment required
