ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Utilizes advanced knowledge, skills, and expertise in pediatrics to implement an APN role for an identified population of patients, including acute & primary care, health promotion, prevention of disease, and management of chronic disease. Performs delegated medical functions as described in written protocols and/or a collaborative agreement that have been approved by medical and nursing

Systematically assesses the physical, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families through the use of a medical screening exam (MSE), history and physical exam, and other assessments as Develops a plan of care for each patient/family based on assessment and documents according to policy.

Demonstrates advanced nursing clinical judgment and competence consistent with evidence-based practice in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of identified patients. Monitors clinical outcomes to improve the quality of care for patients. Evaluates and modifies the plan of care as needed.

Integrates the role of teacher into clinical practice to provide patient education. Assesses learning needs, provides for education and evaluates learning objectives are achieved. Assists the staff in providing patient and family education.

Consults within the organization on current pediatric clinical practice and disease management in area(s) of expertise. Functions as a resource to the community in areas of

Functions as a role model and informal leader.

Demonstrates competence in nursing research through:

Utilization of research studies to guide clinical practice

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS as needed:

• Provides acute care and follow-up to patients in the ACC and WIC.
• Provides well-child if needed
• Provides services related to health maintenance and promotion.
• Establishes diagnoses for common short-term and chronic health
• Orders and conducts timely follow-up on laboratory and radiologic

• Performs medical screening exams for patients that present to the acute care clinic and provides urgent care as indicated.

• Appropriately documents all findings concisely and completely utilizing the electronic medical records system, ensuring all entries are dated and signed within 48 hours of the patient

• Stays current with evidence-based practice and standards of practice.

Education:

• MD

License:

• Unrestricted medical license in Illinois

Experience:

• Post residency

Job Type:

• Bi-lingual Spanish preferred

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills,

demonstrate knowledge and expertise in patient care (pediatrics preferred). Active

member in appropriate professional organization

Certifications:

• CPR issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross;
• Pediatric Advance Life Support
