Under the general supervision of the Assistant Controller, perform detailed administrative work to accurately process bi-weekly, monthly, and student payrolls. Work requires extensive contact with faculty, staff, administrators, and students. Work requires the exercise of considerable judgment and discretion as this is a highly confidential position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Payroll duties will include, but are not limited to:

Payroll data entry and processing (calculating payroll, transmission of direct deposits, check preparation, verification of benefits and tax deductions, payroll audit for accuracy, and payroll reports). Prepares quarterly and annual payroll reports as well as tax forms (i.e., 941's, UC-6's, W-2's, etc.) for the separate payroll classifications. Responsible for maintenance of web time/leave reporting systems and training employees and supervisors in the use of the web-based system. Prepares documents for filing and/or scanning into document management system. Requires some physical effort such as standing, walking, frequent light lifting (5-10 lbs); and manual dexterity in the operation of office equipment;Attends meetings, prepares documentation, and provides other assistance as needed.

Required Skills

Must be proficient with Word, Excel, and institutional accounting software (Ellucian Banner preferred). Must demonstrate a strong commitment to meeting deadlines and be very detail-oriented. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the University community and work within a service team approach.

Work Environment: May require extended periods at a keyboard; prolonged sitting; perceptual demands for color, sound, form, and depth; occasional and, at times, frequent hours outside the normal University schedule (overtime).

Required Experience

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, supplemented by two years of general office experience, with payroll-related experience.
