Primary Purpose of Position:

Based in the company's Broomfield, Colorado corporate headquarters, the Payroll Manager is fully responsible for all aspects of payroll including managing the execution of U.S. payroll through our outsourced payroll service provider, time-keeping, reporting, maintaining external and internal payroll controls and accounting. This position will work with all of our manufacturing plants and departments to facilitate the accurate reporting of time and labor, maintaining systems and data integrity and identifying and implementing necessary enhancements.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the Payroll Administrator and ADP (the outsourced payroll service provider) performs functions required to pay employees and maintain earnings records to meet federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversees and reviews the processing of company hourly and salaried payrolls, incentive payrolls, special payrolls, and pay-related adjustments and updates such as garnishments, pro-rations and retroactive payrolls, stop payments, off cycle payments and voids as scheduled and requested.
  • Oversees and reviews the payroll administration of the 401(k) plan and HSA accounts, including review and audit of all incoming files from the plan administrator and review of all outgoing files. Audit records to ensure that all earnings codes are properly classified for the calculation of the 401k match.
  • Work with finance as needed on the benefits accounting activities for the self-insured health plan and 401(k) plan.
  • Ensure employment taxes are properly withheld and earnings codes are properly classified.
  • Serve as central point of contact for plant HR for unemployment claims management
  • Notifies ADP of any new tax jurisdictions or changes to tax rates and status that require payroll and tax filing set up. Initiates payment for payroll taxes in jurisdictions where ADP is not authorized.
  • Remains current on changes to federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and ensures that all requisite internal systems are updated as required to facilitate the accurate deduction and reporting of payroll tax information to the appropriate agency.
  • Reviews payroll exception reporting and escalate issues to management.
  • Reviews and approves final W-2 forms.
  • Ensures that adequate controls are in place to document all key processes, that the correct statutory and voluntary deductions are taken from all disbursements and that the proper recording and transfer of funds to outside third parties is completed accurately and on time.
  • Analyzes and tests the accuracy of changes to the payroll system for wages, salaries, deductions, account distributions, personnel, and salary administration data entered by plant locations.
  • Ensures best in class administrative practices and procedures are in place, documented and observed. Remains abreast of industry trends and thoughtfully evaluates new innovations against the company's capabilities, and makes recommendations to management on those systems, process improvements, etc. that would prove beneficial to the organization.
  • Oversees maintenance, modifications, and upgrades to the payroll system. Serves as subject matter expert in similar matters involving program changes to the compensation and/or benefit system.
  • Works with corporate accounting, auditing, compensation, benefits and other personnel across the organization to coordinate matters involving payroll including, but not limited to, payroll distribution, taxes, and incentive compensation.
  • Processes all quarterly and annual payroll filings and works with assigned auditors (internal and external) to ensure that all regulatory requirements are satisfied.
  • Programs, prepares and analyzes payroll earnings and deduction reports for senior management, as requested
  • Responsible for maintenance of the time-management system, audit of time and schedules, escalation of administration problems or errors, oversight of approvals. Review time entries and following up on corrections needed.
  • Ensure schedules are properly established within the time management system, including shift premiums, holiday credits, overtime methodology, attendance tracking and etc., and assign to employees and/or locations as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain employee access for timekeeping and self-service.
  • Oversee employee self-service. Follows up with ADP or employees on any issues related to self-service.

At Ball Metalpack, we offer a comprehensive total rewards package, including competitive pay and benefits: Compensation: The annual base salary range for this role is from $80,000 to $100,000, plus annual target bonus of 12.5% of base salary. An annual bonus is awarded to eligible employees upon attaining various business and individual goals as defined by Ball Metalpack and the department leader. This annual bonus is discretionary, and Ball Metalpack has sole discretion to determine the amount of the award.
