AkzoNobel is excited to announce this Packaging Solutions Team Lead opportunity to join our R& Team at the Strongsville Technology Center.

The Packaging Solutions Team Lead is responsible to manage theR&D activities and day-to-day operations through supervising and management of a team. Develop and implement an operational plan and objectives for the team within corporate guidelines, plans and policies within own unit.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manages the execution of the multi-year plan in own team, safeguards planning and budget of activities in and provides input to the development of the year plan
  • Plans and organizes the activities including well-defined goals and milestones and requires resources
  • Prioritize activities and appropriate level of staffing
  • Partners within RD&I and other departments like supply chain and/or marketing
  • Is lead R&D contact for customers and attends customer meetings and develops overview and technology presentations
  • Responsible for the development of the team in the relevant scientific discipline
  • Product portfolio management, work with relevant stakeholder such, as marketing, sales.
  • Work with global technical team for portfolio management, move towards one global portfolio.
  • Lead and delegate the work (Complaints, Tasks LWR and projects) within the Packaging team, according to the prioritization set for the projects and the LWRS, with the technical Manager, and the technical leaders for the projects. All projects should be well defined with a clear product brief and delivery date
  • Execute longer SGE (2MY) with minimal guidance of line manager every 6 -12 months. Use strong project management techniques to enable effective work in development projects.
  • Secure business intelligence by keeping updated on the latest research, technology, raw material, publications, as well as news from market and customers.
  • Line manager responsibility for < 10 employees. Within the team, ensure knowledge build-up and succession planning within all relevant chemistries and applications.
  • Work closely with Business Development OEM, including marketing and sales to create strong and clear business cases for new project proposals as well as in the delivering of projects.
  • Support technical managers with guidance in product development and risk assessment to develop a healthy innovation funnel/pipeline.
  • Ensure all the team is fully aware of the product portfolio and how to technically support the portfolio

Job Requirements

  • A degree within chemistry, preferably PhD or Master of Science. Relevant areas are Organic chemistry, Polymer chemistry, Physical chemistry
  • 5 years of practical experience of product development work
  • The position requires good skills in English, and strong communication skills - ability to communicate within the R&D team and with stakeholders
  • Can prepare presentations and reports for senior management across more than one function at an appropriate level of technical detail
  • Can simplify and teach complex technical concepts to junior chemists
  • Highly organized, self-motivated and able to work easily with cross-functional groups (sales, marketing, ISC)
  • Be a role model of safe work environment practices
  • Adaptive communication style to different levels of the organization, from technician to Director
  • Ability to deal with and work in environment with high level of ambiguity
  • Capability of integration in an international/multi-cultural environment
