Dow has an exciting job opportunity as an Operator located in Hayward, CA.

The Dow Hayward Site is part of the Dow Coating Materials business, producing primary polymer components of paint, adhesives, and other products. Our operators typically begin their careers in the product-handling and logistics areas of the facility, and many progress to positions operating our batch polymerization reactor area and coordinating the activities of others their shift.

Responsibilities / Duties:

* As an entry-level operator, leads and performs the loading of totes and tank trucks of finished product, as well as inspection, housekeeping, safety, and other tasks. May also be trained on warehouse operations.
* Demonstrates ownership of the safety and productivity of their area
* Demonstrates collaboration with their team to ensure the safety and productivity of the entire site.
* Consistently treats other team members with respect, and constantly helps to build and maintain an inclusive environment for all site employees.
* Learns and follows Dow and Hayward plant policies, principles, procedures, standards, and practices.
* Operates and monitors the health of process equipment, such as pumps, valves, hoses, and instrument.
* Monitors process conditions, key performance metrics, equipment, and control systems and makes decisions that work towards plant production targets.
* Conducts troubleshooting of equipment, chemistry, and process issues and works to resolve them safely and effectively.
* Performs minor repairs of equipment.
* Conducts effective shift relief, with seamless handoffs at the beginning and end of each shift.
* Maintains qualification in assigned areas and completes training goals in a timely manner.
* Proactively fills gaps in personal skills and knowledge by asking questions and seeking out help.
* Mentors and trains others.
* Works safely, quickly, and effectively with a team to resolve emergency situations.
* Honestly and proactively communicates operating errors in order to safely resolve unplanned events.
* Works on root cause investigation teams to identify preventative actions after unplanned events.
* Proactively identifies improvement opportunities.
* Leads their own development and advancement within the organization by actively engaging in goal-setting and performance discussions.
* Potential advanced operator roles include offloading of raw material trucks and railcars, transferring finished product throughout the plant, and operating the reactor area.
* Potential add-on roles include isolation of energy (red tagging, lock-out/tag-out), safe work permit writing, confined space rescue, shift technical leadership, and shift activity coordination.

The Dow Chemical Company does not offer relocation assistance for this position. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from test sessions/interviews. Required Qualifications:

* A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required

* Must be 18 years old or older.

* Must have a current, valid US driver's license. This is required in order to operate yard trucks.
* A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Process Technician Certification, relevant Associate degree, or military experience is preferred

* Chemical manufacturing experience is preferred

* Control system experience (e.g. Siemens, DeltaV, etc.)
* Aspen Process Explorer experience
* Fork truck or forklift certification
* Mechanical, maintenance, or heavy machinery experience
* Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Good interpersonal skills
* Strong multi-tasking, problem-solving, and time management skills
* Experience working within and leading teams
* Experience with proactive identification, prioritization, and execution of multiple tasks

Physical Requirements:

Must be willing and able to do the following with or without a reasonable accommodation.
* Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
* Wear and use respirators
* Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
* Work in tight or closed-in spaces
* Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground
* Stand or walk for extended periods of time
* Maneuver drums and powder bags using available ergonomic assistance equipment
* Ability to work a 4-day, 12-hour, alternating day/night set schedule
* Willingness to work overtime shifts

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

• Relocation is not available for this position

• The ability to work a full shift, come to work on time, work overtime and holidays as needed and the ability to work according to the necessary schedule to meet job requirements with or without reasonable accommodation is an essential function of this position.
