Summary:

Operational Engineering is responsible for streamlining offerings to CSG's end customers. They take solutions from development and ensure they are operationally sound prior to rolling into production. Products are evaluated and prepared for installation, configuration, monitoring, diagnostics, and process / procedure to ensure minimal impact as they are released. Production optimization from a personnel perspective is a critical point and leveraging technology to ensure solutions adhere to customers SLA requirements for availability. Team utilizes ITIL methodology in performing their core duties.

Position Details:

The candidate is responsible for providing key support for their focused product / solution area to internal and external resources. They will work to deepen their understanding and expertise surrounding the solution area and provide key support for performance groups as well as act as a key interaction point for many operations teams. Through these two channels, the incumbent should obtain a good breadth of exposure and knowledge that will allow them to bolster the products operational capabilities going forward.

Job Responsibilities

Installation and Configuration

  • Installation and configuration of production environments
  • Definition of installation and configuration process / procedures associated with key product set

Monitoring and Diagnostics

  • Provide recommendations for process / procedure modifications to enhance ability to monitor appropriate CSG solution offerings
  • Perform maintenance and enhancements to monitoring and diagnostics tools
  • Create key recommendation for tool enhancements including evaluation of recommendations from various internal organizations

Solution / New Product Evaluation

  • Provide high level analysis of key designs contributing to product enhancements and ensure outstanding issues are highlighted that need operational consideration
  • Engage closely with development and architecture teams through the agile methodology to understand overall product direction
  • Examine key integration points and look to identify mechanisms and methodologies to simplify the operations of the solutions being offered

Third Party and Open Source Projects

  • Execute third party / open source compilation for requisite software
  • Ensure appropriate installation method exists for products within production

Third Party Expert

  • Define best practices for third party installation, configuration, and monitoring
  • Identify mechanisms for visibility into key third party components
  • Create and maintain Designated Server Environment (DEG) matrix illustrating current and next versions of products being utilized.
  • Identify upgrade path for underlying third party components being leveraged by the products

Architectural Direction

  • Create / provide recommendations to product management, development, and operations on key operational criteria and potential impacts to architectural direction for solution

Work closely with the analyst and development organization to ensure firm understanding of product vision - provide operational guidance to ensure architecture fulfills operational needs

  • Begin digging in with Platform Architecture to ensure appropriate understanding of architectural direction of key infrastructure components

Operational Readiness

  • Create operational readiness checklist based on generic operational engineering template
  • Overall assessment for each release to ensure adherence to operational best practices

Hardware / Device Integration

  • Exploration of best practices for product utilization of appropriate HW infrastructure to support Backup, Recovery, DR, and availability requirements
  • Familiarization of existing HW infrastructure required to support existing products

Production Support

  • Active support of production issues associated with installation and configuration
  • Active support of production issues associated with product architecture

Required Experience:

  • 3+ years' experience working in a Linux environment
  • Programming experience/ability to understand code Python, C++ Etc.
  • AWS or other cloud computing solution experience is a plus
