The Home for Little Wanderers is seeking an Occupational Therapist at the Cove School campus in Plymouth, MA.The Cove School provides a safe, secure environment that allows each student to reach their fullest social and academic potential, with the option of residential care for students who need out-of-home support. Under the direction of the school Principal, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing evaluation, treatment, teaching and consultation to youth in academic and congregate care settings.

How You'll Be Making a Difference
  • Administers tests and applies evaluation techniques to determine functional status and identify therapy needs. Provides written evaluations of student eligibility for occupational therapy.
  • Analyzes evaluation results and designs a therapy program to meet needs of child, incorporating factors of child's developmental and medical history, social environment and educational placement.
  • Develops individual treatment plans, adapting and adjusting goals and objectives appropriately. Consults with Lead Special Education teacher on the implementation of OT goals in student IEPs.
  • Provides individual and small group treatment both within the classroom and outside the classroom setting.
  • Provides on-going consultation to classroom teachers and other program staff as needed.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills necessary for Evaluation Team Meetings, treatment conferences and family meetings as indicated.
  • Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team; participating in meetings and conferences. Interfaces with parents, guardians and collateral agencies to coordinate student educational and treatment needs.
  • Provides clinical supervision to Occupational Therapy student's in internship placements within HLW as requested by the Director of Education.
  • Uses time effectively, maintains treatment notes and completes all documentation in a timely manner
  • Alters schedule as needed to meet the educational/clinical needs of the program.
  • Functions independently within the scope of these duties consulting with the Principal for administrative issues/departmental operations.
  • Serves on agency -wide, educational, and/or program committees as appropriate.
  • Provides in-service training regarding strategies to facilitate carry over of skills learned in occupational therapy.

    Driving Requirements
    • May be required to operate a vehicle.
    • May be required to have a valid driver's license and a "satisfactory" driving record.
    • May be required to have access to a personal vehicle for use during work hours.
    • May be required to use personal vehicle to transport clients on occasion if/when needed.
    • If required to transport clients, must maintain the minimum amounts of liability insurance as required by The Home and/or other regulatory requirements and vehicle registration must be current.

    Qualifications
    • Requires a Masters degree from an accredited program in occupational therapy with a current NBCOT registration and licensure as an occupational therapist granted by the State of Massachusetts.
    • Computer literate including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer with the ability to learn new software applications.
