The full-time nursing faculty works under the direction of the Dean of Health Sciences and Culinary Arts, the Director of Nursing Education and Program Chairs; works collaboratively and collegially to provide instruction in nursing theory, clinical practice and hi- and low-fidelity simulation laboratories. Provides Associate in Science in Nursing (ASN) and Practical Nursing (PN) students with opportunities to acquire knowledge, develop clinical reasoning to make sound judgments, perform psychomotor skills, and demonstrate competency in the end-of-program student learning outcomes (EPSLO). Prepares students for entry level into nursing practice and passing of their appropriate licensure exam. Follows the policies and regulations of the governing institutions, Holyoke Community College (HCC), Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (MA-BORN), and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) standards for the ASN and PN programs and Centralized Clinical Placement (CCP).

  • Participates in MA-BORN compliance/approval, ACEN accreditation process and the Department of Nursing Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP), adhering to all designated policies and procedures required for each and producing outcomes designated for each.
  • Participates in the development, revision and maintenance of the nursing curriculum for theory, clinical and simulation in alignment with the program's current and nursing's emerging best practices for concept-based nursing curriculum and simulation.
  • Engages in theory preparation in alignment with the program's concept-based curriculum utilizing a wide variety of teaching methodologies, including informational learning technologies and active learning strategies for the integrated classroom for the ASN and PN students.
  • Knowledge of concept-based curriculum development and revisions including identifying program outcomes, developing competency statements, writing learning objectives, selecting appropriate learning activities and evaluation methodologies.
  • Applies NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN test plans in curriculum development and test item writing utilizing learned test-item writing skills in NCLEX and Next Gen format and complies with program testing policies and procedures following HCC Faculty Exam Manual.
  • Ensures simulation based education practices--development, implementation and assessment--align with the policies and procedures outlined in the program's simulation manual/handbook.
  • Assigns, supervises, plans and evaluates student clinical experiences in contracted practice learning environments across the curriculum with course specific clinical student learning objectives and program outcomes and assures safe patient care.
  • Supports working relationships with practice learning environments for student learning experiences.
  • Engages in nursing students' success strategies through student advising, recruitment, utilizing college and department support services that assist the learner in meeting their professional goals.
  • Works effectively as part of the overall department demonstrating positive interpersonal relations, communication, collaborating, mentoring with other faculty members to meet department and student needs.
  • Models professional behaviors for learners including, encouragement of an atmosphere conducive to multicultural learners and nursing student success.
  • Assist in data collection, analysis and aggregation of EPSLO and PO to establish informed decision-making.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies that are consistent with the regulations of the parent institution, or with differences that are justified by the goals of the programs.
  • Participates in College Governance and Department of Nursing committees per MCCC contract.
  • Additional duties as required by the college.
  • Qualifications

    REQUIRED: Master's degree in Nursing--eligible for unrestricted Massachusetts license; licensed by time of hire; minimum two years full-time clinical nursing experience or its equivalent within the last five years; evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction; commitment to support underrepresented students in nursing; demonstrated excellent teaching skills including using interactive and varied pedagogical strategies; teaching experience in higher education; confident and comfortable with technology based instruction including online coursework; commitment to teaching a student body diversified in knowledge, abilities, age, ethnicity, race and sexual orientation; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body.

    **NOTE: A teaching demonstration is a required part of the interview process.

    PREFERRED: Community College teaching experience.

    Full-time, Tenure Track MCCC/MTA position

    Salary: Minimum $56,000 - $70,000. Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full State benefits. Funding Source: State
