The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking Nursing Assistants for the Ortho Unit (3RCE) within the Medical Surgical Services (MSS) Division. Our Medical-Surgical Services Division is one of the largest in the hospital, with more than 260 of our 811 beds assigned to medical-surgical care settings. 3RCE is a 32-bed adult orthopedic surgical unit. Unit staff provides care for patients who experience trauma, tumor removal, reconstructive joint surgery, spine surgery, hand surgery, foot surgery, amputations, sports injuries, skeletal traction, and wound care.

We are looking seeking Nursing Assistants to perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients.
• Turn, position, and ambulate patients.
• Assist patients with bedpans, urinals, and perineal cleansing.
• Take temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
• Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
• Perform simple diagnostic/therapeutic procedures (i.e., dressing changes).
• Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit.
• Set up rooms for patient admission.
• Transport patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair.
• Transport equipment, specimens, and supplies.
• Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
• Perform basic CPR as required.
• Maintain patient confidentiality.

Percent of Time: 90% - 100% (36 - 40 hours/week)
Schedule: Days Monday - Friday, 8 and/or 12 hour shifts.
