Basic Job Functions:

The role of the Product Development Metallurgist includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Leading research and development of sheet steel grades including hot rolled, cold rolled, and galvanized/galvannealed products.
  • Leading/coordinating trials interfacing with operation, technical, and commercial teams.
  • Leading/coordinating qualification efforts of new and existing products with automotive OEM's/tiers interfacing with different NSAR teams, other Nucor divisions, as well as 3rd party laboratories.
  • Supporting customer technical service including direct contact with customers.

    • Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent technical/engineering related steel production experience
  • 2 years of related engineering experience


    • Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S./Ph.D. in Metallurgy or material science.
  • Sheet steel experience.
  • Automotive steel related experience.
  • Proven track record of problem solving and process improvements
