We are looking for a Mission Design Analyst, Level II, focused on technical modeling & simulation, system & mission analysis, and systems engineering to support Umbra's Government Programs department. This talented technical contributor will be responsible for the development of internal and external facing tools, analyses, documentation and solutions which are required to meet current and future U.S. Government needs. The Analyst will be responsible for developing new modeling and simulation capabilities, documenting current and proposed capabilities, and supporting systems engineering across the enterprise. The Analyst will report to the Director of Mission Architecture and collaborate closely with Umbra's Space Systems and Software departments. This person is an innovator with a brilliant technical mind, adaptable to new fields of study and willing and able to tackle hard problems with sound first-principles approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Mission Architecture to develop a robust Modeling and Simulation capability to inform the architecture, development and operation of a multi-phenomenology space based ISR architecture.
  • Support all Umbra Government Programs capture activities, serving as a key contributor, author and reviewer on formal responses.
  • Lead teams in the development of internal and external deliverables.
  • Support systems engineering activities to ensure compliance with commitments to the USG. Develop mission-relevant test plans for coordinated modeling & simulation and on-orbit demonstration to verify and validate system requirements.
  • Travel will be required approximately 25% between Umbra facilities in California, Washington D.C., and Austin, TX as well as to partner and customer facilities.

Basic Qualifications
  • Modeling and simulation experience, including the development of novel capabilities as well as application of existing models and COTS tools.
  • Experience with applying systems engineering principles to small or medium sized systems, driving scalable programs for requirement analysis, verification and validation.
  • Experience creating customer-facing products to secure new business or satisfy existing customer
  • Strong interpersonal ability, able to interact effectively with customer and Umbra staff.
  • A sound understanding of mathematics, with a technical degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • At least 3 years experience with space-based mission system analysis, design, development or operations.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced development environment.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with U.S. Government DoD, IC and Civil customers.
  • Experience with SAR and RF space missions and payloads.
  • Experience with modeling, scripting and analysis software such as MATLAB, Python, STK, FreeFlyer, and CST Studio Suite.
