Laboratory Procedures and Protocols.

  • Responsible for the operation of the laboratory during the late night shift.
  • Monitor pending logs and unprocessed orders to ensure that all requested testing is performed and that all specimens are accounted for.
  • Teach practical laboratory techniques and protocols to new laboratory employees. Demonstrate an awareness of all laboratory protocols.
  • Review all test results.
  • Review all quality control to ensure that test results are accurate.
  • Ensure that staffing is adequate for the workload in all areas at any given time.
  • Serve as liaison between technical and support personnel as well as between the laboratory and its clients.
  • Tactfully handle dissatisfied clients over the phone or in person.
  • Make decisions when problems arise during the shift.
  • Serve as the fire marshal in the event of a fire in the laboratory.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of and comply to all hospital and laboratory safety standards and regulations.
  • Communicate with medical and nursing personnel regarding laboratory results and related protocols.
  • Monitor the workload at the end of the shift and delegate overtime hours if needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required or as responsibilities dictate.

Qualifications
Skills Required

Requires intense attention and concentration. Good visual, verbal hearing and reasoning skills. Ability to handle several processes concurrently. Ability to deal with a wide range of personalities.

Education Required

Completion of a baccalaureate program in a laboratory science or equivalent with national certification by ASCP, or HEW or eligible.

Licensure, Certifications or Registrations Required

National certification by NC~ ASCP, or HEW or eligible
