Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Level B Mechanic who will perform preventive maintenance inspections, diagnostics and repairs, primarily on transit buses and paratransit vehicles for our Decatur, IL facility. Successful applicants must be able to work safely and excel working in a team environment.

This position will report to the Maintenance Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Diagnoses, examines, and investigates vehicles to determine causes of defective operation bus/vehicle systems and components.
  • Determines proper course of action to facilitate bus/vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, and component replacement.
  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections, cleaning, along with minor and major repairs to all bus/vehicle systems/components.
  • Replaces/repairs windows and seats, and performs other minor body damage.
  • Safely operates buses in order to diagnose component failure, make roadside repairs, or move disabled buses.
  • Safely operates equipment and tools related to the diagnosis and repair of buses/vehicles.
  • Communicates, and consults with all levels of employees.
  • Performs daily inspections and repairs on entire fleet.
  • Responds to breakdowns.
  • Properly documents all activities and vehicle maintenance inspections and/or repairs.
  • Mentors lower skill level technicians.
  • Assist in inventory control.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
Talent Requirements:
  • Must have three (3) years of experience in automotive or diesel mechanics, which may include fleet experience. Transit bus or medium/heavy truck experience preferred.
  • Must posses or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment a Class B CDL with passenger and air brake endorsements.
  • Have taken basic automotive or heavy duty repair courses or have professional experience to provide understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty vehicle systems.
  • Must possess EPA Part 609, A/C refrigerant handling certification, within 90 days of hire.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
  • Must self-certify competency on brake service and repair for air brake systems in compliance with CFR Section 396.25
  • Work well in a team environment and demonstrate a willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
