General Statement of Job

Performs advanced master level (Senior Level) work in maintaining, repairing and installing plumbing systems that transport water steam, natural and laboratory gases, sewer, storm and drain water, chilled water, vacuum systems and related equipment and distribution systems district-wide.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees and performs moderately technical and preventative maintenance tasks on all plumbing equipment and systems.
  • Performs troubleshooting and maintenance procedures needed to keep all plumbing equipment operating in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Trains and monitors the work of assigned employees on plumbing assignments; oversee and schedule the work of the contracted vendors for outsourced services; and inspects finished product.
  • Inspects, maintains, repairs, modifies, installs, and replaces building, laboratory, and other miscellaneous plumbing systems.
  • Develops plans, materials and equipment specifications, and estimates for plumbing related projects.
  • Locates and repairs leaks in common and specialty piping systems conveying various fluids and gases, including but not limited to domestic water, reclaimed water, wastewater, steam, laboratory gases, natural gas, and refrigerants.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on building, laboratory and specialty plumbing systems and system components including pumps and controls. Utilizes instruments such as ultrasonic, temperature sensing, pressure and flow gauges.
  • Includes working on electronic and pneumatic actuated valves, as well as replacing backflow prevention assemblies, and safety eye washes and showers. Clears drain blockages. Removes and replaces lavatory fixtures.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps supervisors up-to-date on daily work order status to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained and customer expectations are met.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
  • Prepares and completes appropriate documents, work orders, reports to include but not limited to documenting length of time spent on each job, materials used, and describing work completed. Develops plumbing activity and repair standard operating procedures.
  • Conducts, coordinates and schedules routine, annual and biannual inspections and testing.
  • Complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and established work practices.


  • Knowledge

    Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

    • Working knowledge of plumbing systems.
    • Master level understanding of plumbing codes, working knowledge of building codes such as Fire Codes, American with Disabilities Act, etc. or ability to learn how they apply to facilities.

    • Maintaining an established work schedule, with occasional nights and weekends.
    • Ability to use hand and power tools and equipment to accomplish plumbing tasks involved in maintenance, repair, dismantling, construction, refresh, and remodeling of the building structures.
    • Ability to learn a variety of processes, procedures, methods, various standard materials, and supplies applicable to constructing, remodeling, maintaining, and repairing office buildings and other structures.
    • Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in accomplishing a wide variety of repair, renovation and construction projects.
    • Effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
    • Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials.


    Technology Skills

    • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
    • Must possess appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems and be able to learn new software/systems such as a Computerized Maintenance Management System to open/close assigned work orders.


    Required Work Experience

    • Five years of Licensed Master Plumber's work experience.


    Required Education

    • High school diploma or educational equivalent.


    Special Requirements

    Licenses/Certifications; Other

    • Master Plumber Licensed in the State of Texas.
    • Responsible Master Plumber (RMP) Designation in the State of Texas.
    • Valid Class C Texas Driver's License in good standing.


    Physical Requirements

    • May need to lift heavy objects of up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to drive motor vehicles and other motorize equipment.
    • May be exposed to a variety of temperatures, noise, moving mechanical parts, or chemicals.
    • Work is performed in a variety of settings.
    • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, and at times subject to stooping, crawling, and climbing.
    • May require wearing a respirator (air purifying - N95 or half face mask).
    • May require wearing hearing protection and participation in a Hearing Conservation Program.


    Safety

    • Work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

    ACC Benefits Overview

    Full-time Faculty and Staffing Table employees who work in full-time and/or part-time positions at the College are eligible for ACC medical benefits effective the first of the month after their first 60 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental, life insurance, short and long term disability, retirement plans and AD&D.

    ACC does not participate in Social Security. ACC participates in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) and the Optional Retirement Program (ORP-Faculty Only). Part-time and Hourly employees participate in the ACC Money Purchase Plan (ACCMPP) as a retirement program required by Federal law.
