B uild ing on its mission to brin g together local ingenuity and global insight to save lives , advance equity and secure strong futures , Global Communities is actively seeking a Managing Director, U.S. Growth and Programs to spearhead the strategic growth of its U . S . Programs Portfolio . This is a new, full-time position based in San Diego, California.

The Managing Director will work in close partnership with Global Communities to define the trajectory of its US programs strategy, fo cusing on sustainability and long - term impact to underserved and marginalized communities thro u gh out the United States and along its border s. They will build o n decades of global technical leadership and evidenced - based programming to guide the direction of the organization's domestic portfolio. They will provide leadership and oversight to technical , financial, and operational activities that support market expansion and diversification; forge new partnerships with community-based organizations and grow an empathetic and inclusive team aligned to the vision and mission of Global Communities. They will also serve as a key representative of Global C ommunities' U . S . operations, acting on our behalf to clients, donors, and communities in alignment with Global Communities' current and future work streams .

The Managing Director will contribute significant experience and perspective from public health and/or social sectors to increase impact and revenue throughout Global Communities ' U.S. portfolio . They will ensure that all program and business operations are sound, compliant and innovative; working c losely with leadership to build on its technical expertise and scale operations with attention to solvency and viability for short-term and long-term programming in public and community health with a special focus on emerging issues, maternal/child health , health equity for underserved communities , and positive youth development .

  • Internal focus : Lead creation of strategic plan to grow Global Communities domestic programming portfolio ; e nsure business operations run smoothly; lead and coach team to execute strategic direction and multiply impact.
  • External focus: D rive resource development for maximum impact , ensuring the continuity and growth of public funding for our community and public health "anchor" programming; create opportunities to leverage other unique U.S. funding sources, including healthcare reimbursement and a range of private fund ing opportunities ; develop public and private sector partnerships to multiply impact.


Responsibilities

Responsibility Area: Strategy
  • Leverage organizational history and staff input to develop a vision to take the organization to the next level in the U.S. market, starting with San Diego and growing beyond.
  • Create and implement a strategic plan for our U.S. work to guide organization's U.S. growth over the next decade.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop a business model and revenue/cost structure that ensures reinvestment into U.S. Programs.
  • Articulate unique selling points and ensure our response is relevant to current market and funding trends, reflective of our mission and strategic priorities, and not duplicative of other agencies.
  • Ensure strategies are developed in consultation with staff and our priority communities.


Responsibility Area: Management & Leadership
  • Develop and align the U.S. Programs' staffing structure to accomplish strategic goals and priorities .
  • Ensure role clarity; delegate appropriately and effectively, empowering staff to take ownership of their roles and performance outcomes.
  • Strengthen an organizational culture focused on inclusiv ity , agility, innovation, collaborati on, and people centered practices .
  • Provide strategic guidance, supervision, and growth opportunities for US programming staff.
  • In collaboration with U.S. Programs Finance Director and Project Directors , ensure optimal budget decision making and implementation through direct financial oversight of budget, and indirect financial oversight for other US based programs, focusing on adherence to budget projections and compliance with the office approval matrix.


Responsibility Area: Business Development and Private Resource Development
  • Grow current public and private fund ing , diversifying funding sources and revenue streams.
  • Identify and pursue new funding streams beyond government and private grants, such as health insurance reimbursements and impact investments.
  • Partner with Private Resource Development team to create, implement, and pursue a robust resource mobilization plan, including identification of multi-sectoral funders with shared interests and values.
  • Raise Global Communities' stature and profile with funders in California and other U.S. markets.


Responsibility Area: Partnerships & External Relations
  • E xpand existing and new Global Communities' partnerships with an emphasis on multiplying each other's strengths and resources to further our reach and impact.
  • In partnership with staff and Communications team, create a branding and marketing plan to enhance awareness of Global Communities' U.S. programs.
  • Be visible in the community and keep abreast of trends and best practices.


POSITION SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Must be available for occasional travel within California and the U.S.

Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in a related discipline and a minimum of 11 years of related work experience or a minimum of 15 years of related work experience without a degree.
  • Experience with strategic planning and budgeting , business development, staff leadership (supervision, performance review, etc. ) , and partner engagement.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, managing and growing a U.S. program portfolio for non-profit, philanthropy, healthcare, and/or social service sectors with experience working with US Government and private institutional funders .
  • Detailed understanding and experience mobilizing private and public resources in California and US-Mexico border area.
  • Experience working in the healthcare sector and managing community and public health programming at the local, state and/or federal levels required .
  • Experience engaging communities and a working understanding of the communities that this role will ultimately impact .
  • A passion for the mission and values of Global Communities and achieving equity through quality health and social sector programming.
  • Must have U.S. work authorization.


The salary for this position is between $152,802 - 229,203. Salary is based on several factors including qualifications, experience, internal and external equity.
