Description

The Manager, Software Engineering position will lead software development teams and support hiring and growth of our software engineers.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate for this position should have experience and a passion to lead software development teams to deliver exceptional software solutions. Experience and an advanced grasp of the full gamut of the software engineering lifecycle and who to lead teams through it are required. This role has direct reports as well leadership of a software team on an Agile software development project. Our project team develops software solutions for Healthcare professionals. As part of a Population Health Platform project this role will help develop updates for existing solutions as well as new applications.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Owners to define and drive teams' technology vision and roadmap, ensuring engineering and enterprise policy and practices are prioritized among feature work
  • Work with Architects and Tech leads to establish and ensure the development of solid architecture
  • Work with Agile Leaders to ensure practical delivery plan; clears obstacles timely for the team while empowering and enabling others
  • Controls project risks by analyzing and identifying trigger events, establishing response and contingency plans and recommending ways to mitigate future risks
  • Ensures the alignment, buy-in, and support of diverse stakeholders by building and maintaining trusting relationships with internal customers, third-party vendors, and senior management
  • Hires, trains, and develops talent for growth opportunities
  • Leads team through all technology solution development phases by ensuring team understands and adheres to company methodology, policies, standards, and controls
  • Provides leadership to the team by attracting and hiring talented individuals, setting goals and communicating clear expectations, providing timely and constructive feedback as well as meaningful developmental opportunities, managing performance, providing resources and support as needed, and sponsoring and leading team members through change
Skills and Qualifications

Required:
  • Experience in managing software development with a strong track record of on-time delivery for large, cross-functional projects - Deep understanding of best engineering practices for the full software development life cycle (SDLC), such as good coding standards, TDD (Test Driven Development), build and deploy best practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of working in a large program, navigating through complexities and competing priorities from multiple teams and facilitate cross functional team efforts
  • Experience leading development teams with agile software development methodologies
  • Basic Knowledge of Cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.). Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable
  • Experience with at least one mainstream programming language, such as Java or Python
  • Knowledge of distributed software architecture, such as microservices
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 5 or more years of technical experience
  • 3 or more years of leadership experience
Desired:
  • Knowledge and experience with healthcare information technology is a plus
