Job Summary:

Plans and manages assigned staff toward the accomplishment of the Hospital mission, including recruitment, scheduling, training, and development; counseling/coaching; appraisal and recognition; and recommending salary, promotional, disciplinary, and other personnel actions in accord with existing policies and procedures.

  • Interviews, hires, and disciplines department employees as necessary
  • Formulates and implements the annual departmental budgets
  • Assures staff time and attendance is monitored and accurately documented.
  • Formulates, implements, and enforces departmental and organizational policies and procedures
  • Delegates responsibilities to other staff as needed
  • Reviews departmental records; maintains pertinent files for billing, inventory, patient records, etc.
  • Reviews/monitors the use of departmental forms
  • Formulates/monitors the monthly staffing calendar
  • Reviews/revises departmental job descriptions
  • Monitors and maintains disposable supplies appropriate for service needs; ensure the working order of all capital and other equipment
  • Purchases new equipment to maintain state-of-the-art service
  • Reviews, monitors, and revises departmental charges for patient services
  • Maintains contracts for hospital-wide medical gases and departmental equipment maintenance
  • Formulates, reviews, and revises the departmental orientation and ongoing competency programs; monitors employees' competence
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards as required, including with all JCAHO standards for respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostics
  • Works collaboratively with departmental personnel to set direction and goals for the department; ensures departmental mission is consistent with the organizational philosophy and strategic plan
  • Monitors employees' performance: performs employee performance evaluations and corrects departmental personnel as needed; models excellence
  • Represents the department on relevant committees and at pertinent meetings; provides technical consultation to external and organizational customers routinely and as needed for crisis management
  • Formulates, implements, monitors, and revises the department's performance improvement plan
  • Actively participates in ongoing continuing education activities; maintains credentials appropriate to the position; shares relevant technical information with departmental and organizational personnel
  • Monitors the dissemination of technical and educational information from within the department
  • Plans and manages assigned staff toward the accomplishment of La Rabida's mission including recruitment; scheduling; training and development; counseling/coaching; appraisal and recognition; and recommending salary, promotional, disciplinary, and other personal actions in accord with existing policies and procedures.
  • Plans and manages the department budget to ensure responsible controls over, and efficient utilization of hospital resources.
  • Understands that he/she, and the staff that he/she supervises, generates, updates, transmits, or otherwise work with Protected Health Information (PHI), and ensures that he/she, as well as the staff he/she supervises, treats PHI according to the Hospital's policies and procedures.
  • Seeks ways in which to further develop the department which are consistent with the Hospital's strategic plan; directs and monitors the implementation of new departmental programs
  • Works collaboratively with Human Resources to design and implement a departmental employee promotion and recognition program; promotes and develops employees as appropriate through mentoring and support
  • Works collaboratively with departmental and organizational personnel to design programs specifically targeted toward process and systems improvement; programs support interdisciplinary, patient-focused, and seamless care
  • Lectures on subjects pertaining to respiratory care to departmental and organizational personnel as needed or requested
  • Serves as a faculty member for CPR Recertification, Core Curriculum Lecture Series, and Nursing Orientation
  • Develops programs of learning as needed to facilitate new service implementation

  • Maintains competency in all aspects of respiratory care as delivered in the Hospital including age-specific competence
  • Performs patient care as needed to assist with gaps in departmental staffing, or when needed to facilitate clinical instruction
  • Serves as a technical expert to medicine, nursing, and others in matters of patient management as these relate to respiratory care
Job Requirements:

What we need from you:
  • MA, MS or M.Ed. in Education; early childhood development or special education required
  • Clinical experience working with young children and their families
  • llinois State EI Credential, or eligibility for same, required. EI Evaluator Credential preferred
  • Cultural competency training preferred
  • Experience working with diverse populations preferred
  • CPR required:Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
