As a Manager of Reliability Engineering in Facebook Reality Labs, you will play a critical role in bringing innovative and reliable virtual reality products to market. You will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and engaging them in the right projects at the right time as well as establishing proper operating procedures to assess product health. You will provide both career and technical oversight to this team with the expectation to grow and develop the team into a high-performing organization. You will collaborate with a large breadth of cross-functional disciplines to understand emerging designs and technologies, partnering with them to inform reliability of the architectures. Your team will be responsible for identifying risks associated with these various architectures, identifying appropriate stresses that our products must pass and creating test plans which will be used to assess the reliability. You will also be responsible for managing and working with suppliers on their reliability assessments and data collection.We are looking for someone who possesses critical managerial traits including an ability to build an inclusive culture with clear expectations for deliverables as well as a growth-centered mentality, enabling engineers to grow their knowledge-base while continuously solving difficult problems. We are looking for someone who excels at cross-functional collaboration and is able to create concise analyses for various audiences. The ideal candidate has a strong background in reliability engineering, collaborative engineering, high attention to detail, thirst for knowledge, and an inherent interest in all aspects of engineering.

Manager, Reliability Engineering Responsibilities:

• Manage, build and mentor a team of diverse and talented reliability engineers
• Provide proactive performance management, career guidance, and mentorship for the team
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to ensure team is embedded and engaged early in the product development lifecycle
• Provide strong technical guidance and direction on all aspects of reliability engineering
• Manage cross-functional and executive escalations and provide clear and concise communications to management
• Manage supplier relationships and escalations including roles and responsibilities, schedules, resourcing and day-to-day support
• Ensure proper prioritization among the team and projects
• International travel, up to 20%

Minimum Qualifications:

• Communication and cross functional collaboration skills - experience building bridges with different teams
• MS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent discipline
• 3+ years of people management experience
• Experience managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
• Knowledge of mechanical design, material science, and failure mechanisms of consumer electronics
• 5+ years of experience in reliability engineering
• Proven track record of developing and building high-performing teams

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience managing reliability for emerging product categories, preferably in the consumer electronics space
• Experience working on reliability of batteries, cameras, innovative displays, innovative optical systems, opto-mechanical and computer-vision based systems preferred
