Position is responsible for overall coding supply chain management, capacity planning, and for coordinating the work assignments for all Medical Coders, across all regions, to ensure production is aligned with production forecasts and client commitments. This position works with the Coding Managers, matching appropriate skill sets, available inventory, and remote access capabilities, to effectively manage coding reviews that align to production plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:

  • Manage the overall coding capacity planning process by developing detailed production plans that support client commitments, ensuring that staffing levels are in line with client demand and timeframes
  • Perform supply chain management activities by developing recommendations for changes in staffing levels, and solutions, that support meeting all production plans relative to demand.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of work assignments for all Medical Coders to meet all client commitments aligned for prospective and retrospective coding reviews.
  • Lead the transformation of the mostly manual coder assignment process into automated process workflow by working with Product as the lead operational SME.
  • Align coding assignments with coders after careful consideration of skill sets and potential EMR access to be aligned with production plans.
  • Maintain rosters of active membership for all prospective clients making sure they are aligned with MRR, while maintaining inventory of un-reviewed members.
  • Develop back-up assignments for Medical Coders in anticipation of any issues with primary assignments.
  • Effective coordination with coding managers ensuring available resources.
  • Develop ad-hoc analysis on certain aspects of Coding Operations across teams such as overall productivity metrics, overtime effectiveness, and forward-looking projections and forecasts.
  • Manage direct reports to meet company goals and performance metrics.
  • Manages professional, exempt, and non-exempt non-bargaining and bargaining unit employees.
  • Other duties as assigned.
DIRECTION EXERCISED:
  • Directly supervises exempt and non-exempt staff, at various levels, in accordance with company policies and applicable Federal and State Laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, effectively interviewing, hiring, terminating, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and counseling employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; supporting and encouraging the engagement process.

EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Continuous learning, as defined by the Company's learning philosophy, is required. Certification or progress toward certification is highly preferred and encouraged.

EXPERIENCE:

Seven years of experience, preferably in the healthcare field, familiar with medical coding, remote EMR access, and HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations required. Five (5) years supervisory or lead experience in related field required.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES (SKA) REQUIRED:
  • Must demonstrate leadership ability and team building skills to effectively supervise professional and non-professional staff and interact with all levels of management.
  • Ability to work with and empower others on a collaborative basis to ensure success of unit team.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information, in verbal or written form, by sharing ideas, reporting facts and other information, responding to questions, and employing active listening techniques.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, paying particular attention to detail.
  • Experience in supply chain management and production plan development.
  • Ability to manage significant workload, and to work under pressure meeting established deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong familiarity with Electronic Medical Record and Electronic Practice Management Systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Pivot Table proficiency.
  • Proficiency in other MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong consultative, business partnering and influencing skills; able to establish high trust and credibility.
  • Ability to work independently.
