PURPOSE

The Maintenance Planner reports to the Maintenance Manager. This person assists in the development, planning, and coordinating of a preventative maintenance program. Will assist in the planning and coordination of major equipment repairs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist Maintenance Manager in initiating preventive maintenance programs and coordinating activities. Hands-on field measurements are included in this duty.
  • Develop mid to long-term maintenance plans for major plant equipment.
  • Assist plant and process engineers in developing an optimization program for the finish mills.
  • Plan and schedule winter finish mill ball sorting activities and ensure that quarterly makeup ball changes are performed.
  • Involvement and coordination with the maintenance manager in the selection and development of a maintenance system.
  • Assist in the development of equipment inspection procedures by the operations and maintenance department. To ensure that proper actions are being taken to maintain plant equipment and to keep the equipment in good working condition.
  • Aid in the development of a computerized work order system.
  • Identify skills necessary for Repairman/Welder I and help create an accepted system for development from Repairman/Welder II to Repairman/Welder I.
  • Assist in supervising kiln and mill repairs, including 2nd shift or weekend supervision.
  • Assist in the development of vibration analysis program for major equipment components.
  • Administration of the maintenance planning system.
  • Responsible for short and long-term maintenance planning.
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling efficiency.
  • Cost-effective use of contractors, spares, and materials.
  • Responsible for planning and scheduling training to maintain consistency.
  • Other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Related college degree preferred or equivalent years' experience in the mining industry.
  • Minimum of six (6) years experience in cement or related industry.
  • Mechanical experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Must be able to read and write to complete required daily reports
  • Must have good communication skills one on one.
  • Must have good communication skills using a two-way radio.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have some mechanical skills and be able to do small repairs
  • Must keep safety above all else
  • Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
  • Knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and programs related to preventative maintenance, training guides, and writing of inspection documentation.
  • Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in the English language.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, company policy manuals, and required government regulations
  • Task and project-oriented.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lift up to 35 pounds
  • Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
  • Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
  • Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders
  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and vision to operate equipment safely
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions
  • Pass required physical examination and drug screens
WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, ice, rain, and high humidity, and is required to work in all plant environments. The incumbent will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights..May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs)
