Job Purpose:
Maintenance Person II is tasked to support the ongoing maintenance of the Central Energy Facility, the Redwood City Energy center, and to catch up on deferred tasks. Primary tasks include maintenance and repairs of the process steam vaults and hot water vaults. Tasks may also include processing steam system building repairs and condensate return piping and equipment.
Core Duties*:
40% - Road Maintenance

    Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions on high and low pressure water and steam systems. Plant equipment includes Heat Recovery Chillers, Conventional Chillers, Hot Water Boilers, emergency diesel generator, cooling towers, pumps, valves, Variable Frequency Drives, etc.Check and change oil, clean or change filters, clean strainers, etc. as part of a planned maintenance program. Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.Reading and interpreting vendor manuals and plant equipment diagrams.Mechanical maintenance of rotating equipment.Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.Performs cleaning, mopping, painting, re-lamping and other general housekeeping duties needed for efficient and safe sanitary work environment.
30% - Corrective Maintenance
    Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.Perform pump and motor alignment.Repair and replace piping, pipefittings, and valves.Dismantle and repack valves, prepare boilers and chillers for inspections, clean machinery under repair, cut gaskets.Assist in installation of piping and equipment, cutting threading, soldering, fitting of piping, installation of brackets and hangers.Purge chillers in accordance with established procedures.Tighten valve-packing glands, blow down compressed air tanks, clean strainers, and purge chillers, etc. under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor.
30% - Optimization and Administration of Plant Operations
    Assist Facilities Energy Management and Building Operations groups as needed to troubleshoot and optimize all facets of Energy Operations.Participate in the initial development and updating of plant operating procedures.Order parts, supplies, or equipment from catalogs or suppliersWork within the CEF computerized maintenance management systemComplete maintenance logs.*Other duties may also be assigned
Education & Experience:
    High school degree or equivalentFour years' experience with using mechanics hand tools and shop power tools, such as band saw, drill press, table grinder, pipe threading machine, etc.A California driver's license
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Sufficient knowledge of all plant equipment and understanding of the function and interrelationship of the same.Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.Ability to use logic and reason to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches.Knowledge of and ability to adhere to environmental and safety rules, regulations, and plant operating procedures.Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with others.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Experience working with large chiller systemsExperience with mechanical, I&C, or electrical maintenanceExperience with Distributed Controls Systems, Plant Historians, and standard office computer applications.
Physical Requirements:
    Frequently lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.Frequently stand/walk, twist/bend/stoop/squat, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 11-20 pounds.Frequently kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh >40 pounds.
Working Conditions:
    Requires ability to perform call back and overtime work due to emergencies, sickness, vacation, and other staffing needs in support of a 24/7 operation.Power Plant conditions require wearing of Personal Protective Equipment, including hearing protection with normal plant noise > 80dB TWA.May work at heights >4ft.

The expected pay range for this position is $36.98 to $44.72 per hour.
