1. Provides receptionist and clerical duties throughout the department
a. Answers telephone, per hospital customer service standard.
b. Takes messages and relays information to appropriate personnel.
c. Welcomes patients on arrival, greets and assists all who enter department.
d. Maintains filing systems according to department standards.
e. Files, collates, scans and photocopies material as required into EMR.
f. Understands the Point of Service Collection Process.
g. Maintains waiting room.
h. Maintains work area in a professional and organized manner.
i. Maintains par levels and orders supplies in accordance with established procedures.
j. Contacts maintenance, housekeeping and other departments for repairs or services as required or as directed.
k. Opens and stocks all treatment rooms per department standard
l. Checks expirations dates of items not managed by materiels management at least monthly
m. Performs safety rounding monthly and sends completed document to appropriate contact including Nurse Manager or designee.
n. Performs all other duties as assigned/directed.
Obtains all information to complete the registration/check in process accurately and expeditiously
o. Properly searches for patients within the EMR. Patient Last Name, First Name, Sex, and Date of Birth, consistently. Utilizes Social Security number as needed to ensure proper patient has been selected.
p. Verifies demographic and insurance information, as provided by the patient or designee.
q. Updates the current mailing/physical address and telephone number, as provided by the patient or designee. Copies new insurance cards front and back and scans into EMR and contacts Patient Service Center (PSC) as per standard.
s. Enters pre-certification and or referral numbers as necessary, into EMR.
t. Understands and can Explains Patient Registration Consent Form: Consent to Treat, Release of Information, etc., as determined necessary.
u. Has a full understanding of who can sign or give verbal consent for services: Appropriate consent for adults, minors, incapacitated or incompetent patients.
v. Reviews and processes provider referrals with appropriate symptom(s), diagnosis (es), and provider signature.
w. Completes Medicare Questionnaire/Guidelines appropriately.
x. Provides Advance Directive information per policy.
y. Conducts downtime procedures and inputs all handwritten charts into computer accurately, efficiently and as soon as possible.
z. Performs at least monthly no show/cancellation report and provides to Patient Care Coordinator or designee.

aa. Understands and can explain the Patient Rights Brochure. Offers the informational brochure with each new registration and documents accordingly in the EMR.
bb. Appropriately refers patient to the proper party within the office.
cc. Makes appointments, confirms appointments and as necessary, instructs patient of proper preparation for any appointment.
Professional Development - Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in performing appropriate clerical and clinical functions.
dd. Participates in on going educational activities and acquires knowledge and skills appropriate to the role in the department including but not limited to Patient Registration, Scheduling, Order management, Point of Care Testing, etc.Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in LNA practice
ff. Demonstrates competency in performance of procedures and skills under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Provider: Glucometer, Automatic blood pressure Device, Patient Lifting equipment, dressing removal, wound measurement, etc
gg. Assists and supports a new or transferred employee during their orientation period.
hh. Maintains an accurate education log reflecting attendance at and participation in professional development opportunities.
Assists with patient assessment and care provision under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Provider
ii. Measures/records patient information (hgt,wgt,v/s)
jj. Specimen Management - Obtains, prepares and preserves a specimen for a laboratory test
kk. Observes/reports or records patient response to care given
ll. Identifies and reports deviation in v/s or patient observations & patient needs to RN
mm. Bedside lab testing - performs point of care testing as necessary
nn. Assists patient with comfort care, emotional support, anxiety reduction, diversion activities.

oo. Patient Rights Protection - Protects health care rights of a patient, especially a minor, incapacitated or incompetent patient unable to make decisions. Protects patient privacy.
pp. Answers call bells promptly reporting patient's need as indicated
qq. Provides orientation to room/unit

rr. Cleans and cares for equipment and prepares exam rooms for next patient
ss. Emergency Care - Provides life-saving measures in life-threatening situations

Qualifications
Experience Minimum Required
• 3 months clerical; 3 months as LNA

Experience Preferred/Desired
• Over one year clerical and/or scheduling experience in an acute care setting
• Over one year of LNA experience in a healthcare setting

Education Minimum Required
• High School graduate with office practice courses; graduate of an LNA program

Special Skills Minimum Required
• Knowledge with computer programs such as Microsoft Office.

Special Skills Preferred/Desired
• Specialty coding/billing
• Wound Care or procedural knowledge

Licensure and/or Certifications Required
• LNA
• BLS
