Library Systems Technologist

The Wardman Library at Whittier College is seeking a Library Systems Technologist. The Library Systems Technologist is responsible for providing support and training on library and instructional technology systems. These include printing and access to network resources. This position will also assist with the College's learning management system, Moodle and with the Center for Teaching and Learning. The position manages mission-critical systems and services within Wardman Library at Whittier College, in addition to the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Library's hardware and software. This position is service-oriented and works cooperatively in a team environment alongside librarians, information technology professionals, support staff, and student workers to facilitate the use of and access to information resources. Additional duties include assisting in projects involving educational technology tools, support in training programs, and providing technical support to faculty, staff, and students.

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt
Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time
Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000 annually; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

Location/Department: Whittier College (Main Campus)/Wardman Library

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Supporting daily Library activities through:
a. Administration of Library systems, including ILS Sierra, EBSCO Discovery
Service, PaperCut, and in-library devices.
b. Implementing and maintaining Interlibrary Loan software and server, as well as
the Article on Demand fulfillment service.
c. Serving as primary liaison to systems vendors, including as the main point of
contact for upgrades and training.
d. Maintaining the Library's website, online catalog, the proxy server, and link
resolver.
e. Training library staff and student workers on new technologies and assisting in
troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
f. Assisting Collections Management and Digital Technologies Librarians with
managing online resources and troubleshooting technical issues as they arise.
g. Maintains a collaborative relationship with campus IT in the management of the
Library's public and staff PCs, Macs, scanners, printers, and the College's print
servers.
h. Planning, recommending and implementing new library and/or pedagogical
information technologies based on an understanding of the latest technology,
usage data, and the needs of the College community.
2. Administration of the College's LMS, Moodle, including:
a. Holding regular training sessions and providing instructional support to faculty.
b. Troubleshooting technical issues.
c. Generating reports on usage and performance.
3. Assisting the Center for Teaching and Learning, including:
a. Developing and implementing training programs for faculty, staff, and students on the use of technology and innovative pedagogies.
b. Supporting existing learning and development initiatives.

Position Specifications and Requirements:
Previous experience
• Minimum of two years' experience, preferably working in a college library or education institution.
Education and knowledge
• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field or commensurate experience.
• Experience with current and emerging technologies, proficiency with operating systems such as Windows Mac OS X, Linux, and others.
• Knowledge of Integrative Library Systems (ILS), preferably Innovative Interfaces Sierra. 
• Proficiency in Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferably Moodle.
• Strong systems project management experience.
• Knowledge of academic library technology and printing systems. 
• Knowledge of web technologies, including HTML, CSS, PHP, and web development tools for content creation, programming, and maintenance.
• Excellent understanding of technology and software and willingness to learn emerging digital technologies and applications.
• Demonstrates a responsive service philosophy and commitment, particularly to the undergraduate community.
• Utilizes time and resources to produce an acceptable amount of work during normal work hours and commensurate with job expectations.
• Plans and prioritizes work effectively and in an organized manner.
• Punctual, dependable, creative, takes initiative and works within established time frames.
• Is respectful and tactful. Works well with other employees and College service providers in a positive and cooperative time spirit to achieve common objectives.
• Remains responsive, flexible and open minded at all times when working with others.
