Librarian III, Psychology & Education
We are seeking a Librarian III for Psychology & Education who provides innovative programs and services for the university's faculty, students, and staff in its programs in psychology, brain sciences, and education that advance the research enterprise and foster a climate of scholarly inquiry and student achievement. This role works with faculty and students in the departments of Psychological and Brain Sciences and Neurosciences on the Homewood Campus, as well as a dispersed nontraditional higher education graduate population served by the university's School of Education in both virtual and onsite environments. Reports to the Assistant Director for Academic Liaison and works closely and collaboratively with the Librarian for Online Programs.

In this liaison-focused library, we support a high level of proactive interaction between faculty, students and the librarian. Academic Liaison librarians work both in teams and autonomously to provide resources and services to a very engaged community.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serving the research and teaching needs of faculty and students in psychology and education including:
  • Partnering with them to develop and deliver value-added services as well as new methods of delivering existing services to support the University's research and teaching initiatives
  • Providing faculty research support through consultations and development of relevant resources
  • Collaborating with faculty on student learning outcomes, assessment, and evaluation
  • Offering instructional services both onsite and on-line, including integrating library services and resources into academic courses and course management systems
  • Contributing to innovative online communication tools to help enable our users' work
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with faculty and students
  • Analyzing the research collection and making recommendations for content based assigned departments teaching and research needs
  • Communicating effectively to facilitate awareness of resources and services
  • Working effectively in an organization in which change is both necessary and constant


  • Serving as a member of the Academic Liaison division which includes:
  • Participating in departmental activities, including contributions to social media, providing general research consultation, and actively contributing to Academic Liaison working groups
  • Working with teams both internally in the Sheridan Libraries and externally across all JHU libraries to coordinate services, initiate projects and implement programs
  • Evening and weekend hours


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or an advanced related degree
  • Three years professional library experience
  • Experience in an academic library or academic setting
  • Advanced cultural competency that demonstrates an interest in participating in and leading discussions, initiatives, and collection development activities that reflect diversity and inclusion issues relevant to students, faculty, staff, and the community

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Education, Psychology, or other closely related field


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of emerging instructional and communication technologies and their application to research and teaching
  • Experience developing and assessing service initiatives
  • Experience with on-line instructional design and pedagogy
  • Knowledge of the scholarly communication issues facing their subject areas and academic libraries
  • Professional experience in library instruction, reference, collection development
  • Experience in developing working partnerships with academic departments
  • Demonstrated commitment to responsive and quality library services
  • Strong teaching, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially in teams with staff at all levels as well as with faculty and students

Starting Salary Range: $59,870 - $82,250 annually (commensurate with experience)

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
