Department Information

The Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience Center (CCNC) seeks a Laboratory Manager to assist PI Dr. Alexandra Moussa-Tooks in the day-to-day activities of studies that examine sensorimotor, cognitive, and neural processes in psychosis spectrum disorders. The CCNC focuses on the psychosis spectrum, but the role of adversity and trauma in psychopathology and brain in adult and developmental samples. The center is within the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington and is led by Drs. Alexandra Moussa-Tooks, William Hetrick, and Krista Wisner.

This team is vibrant and versatile, and this position will help conduct investigations of cerebellar contributions to behavioral alterations in cognitive processes (e.g., proprioception, motor coordination, learning, modeling and model updating, timing) and psychotic symptoms over time. Methodologies currently employed include self-reports, clinical interviews, cognitive testing, behavioral and motor tasks, computational modeling, and magnetic resonance imaging (structural MRI, functional MRI, diffusion-weighted imaging, resting state functional connectivity, and magnetic resonance spectroscopy).

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Assesses symptoms and cognition.
  • Runs participants through experimental paradigms and/or neuroimaging protocols.
  • Maintains research databases and IRB protocols.
  • Recruits research participants.
  • Completes various forms of assessments/protocols with research participants.
  • Maintains research databases and IRB protocols.
  • Has interest in gaining hands-on experience and professional development before pursuing doctoral training in psychology, medicine, neuroscience, or a related field.
General Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the initiation, monitoring, completion, and reporting of routine to moderately complex research studies.
  • Organizes and implements data review and analysis.
  • Oversees the proper handling of laboratory specimens including processes, shipping, storage, and documentation and transfer to designated central laboratories.
  • Conducts data quality assurance practices.
  • Prepares research summaries and assists in progress report development.
  • Maintains laboratory work areas and supply inventory.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in science or health-related discipline
WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred
  • Some laboratory experience
  • Prior exposure to clinical psychopathology
  • Prior experience with research

  • Familiarity with semi-structured interviews (e.g., SCID) or cognitive testing (e.g., WAIS)
  • Familiarity with physiological assessment methods (MRI, EEG, EMG/ECG/EDA)

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

This position requires the commitment to at least 1 year of employment, but 2 years of employment is preferred.
