Job Summary:

The Department of Medicine in the Bone Marrow Transplantation and Hematological Malignancies Program at the University of Colorado is looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to join a research lab focused on the study of multiple myeloma. Principal responsibilities of the position will include banking and study of bone marrow aspirate patient samples, cell culture, and murine model as well as assisting with and/or independently conducting experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigators (PI) and other laboratory staff.

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other laboratory members in research functions.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.
  • Cell culture techniques.
  • Processing of bone marrow aspirates.
  • Analysis of rare human cell populations using flow cytometry.
  • Ex vivo drug sensitivity profiling.
  • In vivo murine modeling.
  • In vitro functional assays on cancer cell lines and primary samples.
  • Quantitative PCR.
  • Molecular cloning.
  • Western blotting.
  • High throughput DNA sequencing.
  • Gene expression studies, including RNAseq
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
  • Participate in seminars, journal clubs, and lab meetings.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting, and communicating results.
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including inventory, cleaning, and preparation of laboratory reagents.
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary.
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials, and other items as needed.
  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information.
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit, and related issues.
  • Review and implement lab support policies, practices, and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

Entry Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Intermediate Level:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • One (1) year professional level research experience.

  • Senior Level:
    • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • Two (2) years professional level research experience.

  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
    • Prior of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
    • Working knowledge of FlowJo, Microsoft Office, Prism, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
    • Outstanding customer service skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
    • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology.
    • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
    • Entry Level: $40,280 - $51,236
    • Intermediate Level: $43,834 - $55,757
    • Senior Level: $47,388 - $60,278

    The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
