Laboratory Assistant
We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant who will work in a stem cell lab in the department of Neurology in support of cutting-edge human stem cell work in the area of neurodegeneration. The Laboratory Assistant will assist with experiments related to understanding the molecular processes that occur during ALS. The Laboratory Assistant will receive guidance and supervision as necessary.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine stem cell work and following protocols under close supervision.
  • Work with all members of the lab and assist as needed in aseptic cell culture techniques, histology and various additional biochemical techniques.
  • Assist with general day-to-day laboratory maintenance and general lab upkeep as required.
  • Work under Biosafety levels 1, 2.
  • The goals for this position are for the successful candidate to develop familiarity with common laboratory techniques and experimental approaches, and to contribute to research in a university setting.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Some undergraduate coursework preferred.

Starting Salary Range: Min $15.00 - Max $19.50 HRLY ($36,088 budgeted; Commensurate with experience)

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
