Position Summary:

In this role you will work with a project engineer, scientist and/or another technician to provide laboratory support for developing new manufacturing methods, processes, and equipment that use industrial gases and cryogens within the food industry.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Working under minimal supervision and from sketches, drawings, or verbal instructions in English, complete the design, fabrication, assembly, start-up, troubleshooting, operation, and maintenance of bench, pilot, and full-scale commercial equipment.
  • The position will have a focus on electrical control systems and require extensive use of hand, power, and machine shop tools, as well as test equipment to complete the various assignments.
  • Collect, record, and analyze data and prepare written and electronic reports to engineers and managers.
  • Provide laboratory, pilot plant and field technician support, mainly in an R&D laboratory, and occasionally in a manufacturing plant environment for customer start-ups.
Relevant equipment, components and processes may include:
  • Cryogenic food freezers, mixers, and coolers
  • Industrial gas, cryogenic and water systems
  • Pressurized vessels, piping, and tubing assemblies
  • Process controllers, instrumentation, etc.
You will be expected to maintain the highest safety standards. Regular 1st shift position, but occasional paid overtime or weekend work is necessary depending on project schedules.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is:
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and climb.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly climb ladders up to 20 feet high
  • May be required to crawl under equipment.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment including safety glasses/eye protection, masks, safety toed shoes, gas monitors, and NOMEX clothing.
  • May be required to work in an environment with a potential for electromagnetic fields
  • Occasionally work in extremes of cold and hot temperatures however, most work will be in a climate-controlled lab area.
  • Travel to national and/or international Linde or customer facilities may be required as necessary.


Position Qualifications:

Salary and Job Level Commensurate with Experience

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Up to 25% travel may be required, including overnight, weekend or multiple-night stays depending on customer schedules.
  • Background in industrial equipment fabrication
  • Knowledge of basic fluid flow systems that may include components such as valves, pumps, compressors, heaters, chillers, freezers, tanks, mixers, dryers, controllers, piping, tubing, manifolds, etc.
  • Familiarity with electrical and control systems: their design, assembly, and testing.
  • Basic computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), e-mail, and the Internet.
  • Ability to work safely in a variety of environments
Preferred:
  • Experience working in an industrial environment including high and low temperatures, high pressures, cryogens, and electricity.
  • Technical or Trade school or an Associate degree in a technical discipline
  • Proficiency in industrial electrical panel design and fabrication
  • Experience in Food or cryogenic equipment and applications
  • PLC programming
  • Data acquisition
