Description
Applicants who possess a valid Class A or B CDL will be hired at the Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior level - $17.55 per hour

Proficiency and certification in the operation of heavy highway maintenance equipment will result in eligibility for promotion to a Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior - $17.55 per hour. Internal applicants who possess the necessary agency certifications shall be considered at the Highway Maintenance Worker Senior classification if selected for the position through the competitive selection process.

Examples of Work
Responsible for snow removal on an assigned section of highway. Must be able to operate trucks, loaders, and road repair equipment. Will mow R.O.W. using power hand mowers and tractors. Will operate post hole diggers and drivers and assist in snowfence installation. Performs manual labor in concrete and asphalt patching and crack sealing. Controls traffic in and around maintenance projects. Loads and unloads materials and supplies. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Performs sign repair. Performs varied maintenance functions such as armor coating and blade patching. Sprays noxious weeds.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Experience in the operation of heavy equipment and/or farm equipment. Basic computer experience. Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement.

OTHER: A valid Class A Commercial Drivers license with tanker endorsement is required within 6 months of employment. Required training and costs associated with obtaining the CDL will be paid for by the Department. Must be a safe worker that is team oriented. Regular and reliable attendance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to safely move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend, stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high speed traffic. Must be able to follow directions with minimal supervision. Must be able to read and communicate effectively to give and receive instructions. Must be able to report to work for snow and other highway emergencies within 45 minutes under normal driving conditions and be placed in an "on-call" status.
