Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Overview:

We are currently seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at our Salisbury, NC shop. Reporting to the Supervisor, Manufacturing Operations, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic will primarily be responsible for repair and preventative maintenance of the mobile fleet within the shop.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high level of safety and ensure that the team maintains a safety-first culture
  • Perform mechanical repairs on propane, gas and diesel powered equipment
  • Troubleshoot forklifts, manlift, scissor lifts, skid steer, loader, motor grader, and a crawler crane
  • Perform all preventative maintenance on the mobile fleet
  • Utilize both paper and electronic parts books and operation manuals to order parts that need replacement
  • Read manuals, uses hand tools & power tools to perform repairs and maintenance to electrical systems, hydraulic systems, engines, power transmissions, brakes, drivelines and other 12 and 24V mobile systems
  • Observes and listens to mobile equipment in operation to determine malfunctions
  • Maximizes performance of equipment by performing repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on a timely basis
  • Utilizes electrical and pressure testing equipment within the company guidelines
  • Maintains PM parts inventory and orders supplies as needed for work orders ahead of schedule
  • Conducts pre-shift safety inspections of equipment and work area
  • Aides in the training of co-workers as needed
  • Dispose of used oil in an environmentally responsible manner, according to our SPCC.
  • Use 5S methodology in conjunction with the floor sweeper to maintain a clean and safe workplace
  • As needed:
    • Assist our facility maintenance technician on stationary equipment repair and PM's
    • Disassemble crusher subassemblies using hand tools and power tools (electric, pneumatic, battery and hydraulic)
    • Powerwash and sandblast components to perform a pre-reman inspection
    • Use common metrology equipment to distinguish focused areas needing further attention such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges and feeler gauges.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Will take an active role in the companies safety initiatives
  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed
  • Must be a self-motivated, strong work ethic individual that is willing to work with minimal supervision and at high level of accountability to operational requirements
  • A strong mechanical background
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to report and transfer information
  • Ability to work indoors & outdoors in changing weather conditions, heat, cold, and wind
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. will be required
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience required
  • Associates Degree in Heavy Equipment repair a plus
  • Experience in mobile equipment maintenance preferred
