This role has the flexibility to function on a remote basis for those outside the region OR corporate Basking Ridge NJ site based.

Summary

The Head of Metrics, Analytics, Reporting & Solutions is responsible for enabling a culture of Data Driven Decision making across all R&D Line Functions through maximization of internal and external system data. Build and manage a team of Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Metrics Leads to drive exploration and utilization of System Data across the R&D Enterprise. Define strategy to accelerate and expand the ingestion of data sources into the R&D Data Lake as well as leveraging other Non-R&D Data Sources/Lakes. Manage the development of advanced analytics including statistical modeling, algorithm development, AI and machine learning to tackle adhoc business questions/ anticipate risk and to inform day-to-day role-based process decisions. Continuously evaluate the latest technologies and solutions which will enable data scientists to fully exploit data through rapid and innovative methods. Partner with Functional leaders to define, measure and report out performance metrics against agreed upon targets including root cause analysis and commentary collection for variances. Oversee the build of database(s) to store calculations required for metrics generation. Responsible for the development of visualization tools/dashboards for end user consumption. Partner closely with Data Governance in order to implement proper standards and data quality checks along with data flows for cross-system data sharing. Lead the development of a cross-system standard, adhoc and self-service reporting environment. Ensure participation and utilization of external benchmarking and competitive analysis. Seek out opportunities to apply automation of manual data consolidation and reporting by Line Function users. Partner with 3rd party vendors to secure direct back-end access to the necessary data in a timely and efficient fashion in order to scale/connect across R&D systems . Maintain a seamless partnership with other roles in Global R&D Excellence in particular the Business System Owners, Data Governance, BAs and BELs to ensure the business needs are understood and delivered, leveraging high quality data in our source systems.

Responsibilities

  • Metrics, Benchmarking & Competitive Intelligence
    • Define & Build Metrics, KPIs, KRIs, KQIs across all R&D LFs
    • Drive Annual Target Setting Process & Senior Level Reviews
    • Build and Maintain Metrics Catalog along with End User Education
    • Leverage public source data to evaluate competitive landscape
    • Submit required data for External Benchmarking Surveys and Socialize Outputs
    • Capture, Categorize and Report on Qualitative Commentary/RCA/Learnings
  • Analytics
    • Develop Descriptive, Predictive and Prescriptive Analytics from structured and unstructured data
    • Develop advanced algorithms & modeling to improve future planning
    • Monitor data for emerging trends and anomalies, create alerts & escalation
    • Leverage Text Mining to classify and analyze free text data
    • Use techniques to connect internal/external data in meaningful ways
  • Reporting
    • Build standard and adhoc reporting environment, moving away from single system vendor developed reports into a cross-system integrated internal reports
    • Build self-service reporting capability to allow end users to update and modify reports on-the-fly without support
    • Automate manual offline data consolidation & reporting from end users
  • Small Rapid Solution Development
    • Develop advanced visualization tools (Tableau, Spotfire, PowerBI) and dashboards to allow users to interpret and draw insights for decision making, with clear role-based user flows tied to business processes
  • Data Lake Governance & Maturation
    • Ownership of R&D Data Lake and Database(s)
    • Apply Data Engineering to newly ingested Data
    • Apply Data Standards and Data Quality Checks
    • Partner with Head of DG on the implementation of master data management
  • DX/IT, Vendor, Global R&D Excellence Collaboration
    • Partner closely with DX/IT to leverage other technical resource and ensure alignment with enterprise wise Data Governance and Architecture
    • Seek opportunities to secure new external data & drive partnership with vendors in this space
    • Collaborate with domain experts in privacy, security, and compliance to ensure that the R&D data platforms uphold privacy, security, data governance and compliance requirements.
    • Partner closely with other key roles in Global R&D Excellence such as Business Engagement Leads, Business Analysts and Trainers to ensure the optimal delivery and update of data analytics solutions and education
    • Work with other Non-R&D functions (DX/IT, CSPV, QA, DX, Legal, Commercial, Med Affairs, Drug Supply) to leverage additional targeted data for R&D purposes
    • Develop and maintain close network of Data/System SMEs across organization

Education Qualifications (from an accredited college or university)
  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Life Science, Engineering, Business Administration or a related discipline or equivalent work experience is required. Master's Degree preferred. required
Experience Qualifications
  • 10 or More Years • Minimum 12 years experience in life sciences, pharma or informatics industry supporting multiple functional stakeholder groups globally, working with internal and external data from Research through to Development required
  • 4 or More Years • Minimum 5 years leading Data Analytics & Metrics function either on the Business or IT side is required required
  • 7 or More Years • Demonstrated ability to influence at all organizational levels through clear, concise, and impactful verbal and written communication skills. required
  • 7 or More Years • Experience within or supporting Research & Development processes, roles and systems is required required
  • 7 or More Years • Experience defining and generating business performance metrics is required required
  • 7 or More Years • Experience managing a global delivery team is required required
  • 7 or More Years • Experience with Data Visualization tools is required required
  • 7 or More Years • Experience building/managing a Data Lake/Database is required required
  • 4 or More Years • Experience as a hands-on Data Engineer/Data Scientist is preferred preferred
  • • Experience implementing a Data Governance strategy is required required
  • • Knowledge of key industry regulations relating the compliance of IT Data and Systems is required required
  • • Proven ability to work in a global and highly matrixed environment is preferred preferred
  • • Ability to build, mentor and grow a high performing and cohesive team preferred
