Project Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated, customer-oriented Systems Engineer, with proficiency on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to join our team. The selected candidate will support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Web Operation Center (WOC).

The WOC currently hosts over 175+ services for the NOAA Enterprise utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS) and is now looking to expand into a multi-cloud environment with GCP. The candidate will add their GCP and Engineering expertise to assist in designing the organization's GCP offerings. The candidate will have the opportunity to architect and implement GCP offerings to NOAA clients, helping to expand WOC offerings and services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design infrastructure and platform services for the NOAA Enterprise
  • Design solutions based on services for NOAA Enterprise customers
  • Contribute to a long-term technical roadmap for infrastructure and platform, particularly with GCP services and creating a multi-cloud environment for NOAA customers
  • Create Standard Operation Procedures (SOP's) for a service catalog of offerings
  • Working with NOAA technical teams and customers for migration planning and optimization.

RequiredSkills & Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in designing and managing solutions using the GCP suite of tools
  • Proficiency in designing and managing solutions based on the LAMP stack (or comparable)
  • Experience working in automation using Deployment Manager, Ansible, Python and shell
  • Proficiency with virtual infrastructure concepts
  • Proficiency with current network and storage concepts
  • Proficiency with High Availability and Fault Tolerance
  • Strong problem-solving ability based on scientific method
  • Strong coordination, organization, teaming, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with broad direction
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
  • US Citizen

Desired Skills & Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with other cloud environments, such as AWS or Azure
  • Familiarity with managing Windows systems
  • GCP Cloud Architect certification (preferred)

RequiredEducation/Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field and 5+ years of working experience in IT Software
