Job Info

Description

The University of Chicago's Department of Neurological Surgery seeks full-time physician-scientist faculty members to join the functional and epilepsy neurosurgery program. Appointees will have demonstrated a strong commitment to functional neurosurgery, broadly defined, through rigorous clinical and academic work, and will contribute to advancing the functional research and clinical programs. In addition to the teaching and supervision of trainees, appointees will have inpatient, outpatient, and on-call responsibilities at the University of Chicago Medical Center's Hyde Park campus and occasionally at our network and affiliate sites. Appointees will start in the 2024 calendar year. Academic rank and compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are dependent upon qualifications.

Appointees will collaborate with other department members to further the overall functional neurosurgery program. The functional neurosurgery program at UChicago spans the relevant sub-disciplines of movement disorders, epilepsy, psychiatric disease, pain, and stroke recovery with potential for additional areas of focus such as traumatic brain injury and addiction. The Functional Research Program's current portfolio includes several National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other awards that involve basic research (Brain machine interface), translation projects, and clinical trials. Appointees will join a vibrant and distinguished community of faculty colleagues committed to delivering the highest quality care and training the next generation of neurosurgeons.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a Medical Doctorate (M.D.) or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, and 3) be board eligible through the American Board of Neurological Surgery or equivalent.

We especially welcome applicants with peer-reviewed research portfolios or with significant potential to secure extramural funding. Other preferred qualifications include: Board certification in Neurosurgery, advanced training in Functional Neurosurgery, broadly, as demonstrated by fellowship training and/or other dedicated experience and demonstrated interest or strong track record of academic accomplishment and a commitment to scholarly work, including basic, translational, or clinical research related to brain function, the mechanisms of functional brain disorders and/or neuromodulation.

To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago's Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications: https://apply.interfolio.com/131878. Applicants must upload a CV including bibliography and cover letter. Review of applications ends when the positions are filled.
