The Developer Ecosystems Engineering team is looking for a passionate software engineer to be part of a team of strong engineers building a world class developer experience for our customers. Customers around the world depend on PayPal's developer tools, SDKs, and APIs to keep their businesses thriving, and developers working with PayPal's products need a developer experience that is easy to understand, consistent, simple to integrate, and innovative to be successful. You will play a pivotal role in designing and building the next generation of PayPal's developer experiences. You will be responsible for building and delivering a world class sandbox experience and unified set of tools that work across all of PayPal's offerings. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn and able to master many technologies and has a strong focus on understanding what our customers want. The Team:

The Developer Ecosystems Engineering team is looking for a passionate software engineer to be part of a team of strong engineers building a world class developer experience for our customers. Customers around the world depend on PayPal's developer tools, SDKs, and APIs to keep their businesses thriving, and developers working with PayPal's products need a developer experience that is easy to understand, consistent, simple to integrate, and innovative to be successful. We partner with teams that build and own the best-in-class solutions offered across PayPal to find common ways of expressing PayPal's products to our customers.

Our focus is teaming with smart engineers who are passionate about their craft and excited to build software for our unique solutions in the space. You will actively be part the team's participation in all phases of our software development lifecycle: from design, architecture and planning to development, testing, deployment, monitoring and beyond. You will be responsible in delivering an industry leading sandbox tooling, process, and experience.

We practice test-driven development and believe that it helps us deliver simple solutions focused on real customer needs. We have no QA department - developers test, release and monitor their own code. We value unique perspectives brought by diverse backgrounds and experiences. A broad range of ideas and perspectives help us to create the best possible product.

Things you will do a Senior Software Engineer at Paypal :
  • Demonstrate ownership of features, projects, modules, and services that you and your team deliver
  • Design and development efforts of existing and new sandbox experiences using a wide variety of web technologies
  • Play a key role in our broader architectural decision-making processes
  • Act as a strong advocate for clean and scalable coding principles
  • Participate in formal and informal code reviews to ensure code quality
  • Be a champion of high-performance, secure, and reliable software services
  • Identify critical non-functional requirements for the work your team is prioritizing (security, performance, scalability, etc.)
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with all non-technical stakeholders (Product, Design, Analytics, Professional Services, etc.)
  • Work with your Agile team to achieve shared understanding around the new products and features under consideration
  • Continuously learn by staying on top of the latest technology trends and share your knowledge and experience with your peers, adjacent teams, and across the organization
  • Collaborate frequently with other developers to design and implement the required solutions
  • Understand and apply our technical architecture to ensure consistent, reliable, and secure deployments
  • Actively contribute to our automated test suite to enable speedy and reliable continuous integration
  • Guide continuous improvements to our build and deploy processes
  • Bring fresh ideas for how to continuously improve our software and your team
  • Advocate for ways to remediate technical debt on an ongoing basis
What we look for:
  • You have a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science, a related field of study, or 5+ years of related professional experience
  • Expertise in computer science fundamentals like data structures, complexity analysis, object-oriented design, and algorithm
  • You are skilled in writing scalable software systems and familiar with topics and technologies like containers, distributed computing, routing, cluster management, etc.
  • You care about writing high-quality code, and you've written your fair share of automated tests to back up your code
  • You're passionate about creating compelling user experiences
  • You're ultimately a problem solver, and you enjoy working both independently and collaboratively to identify the root cause of any issue
  • Experience in scripting and prototyping and demonstrated developing POCs
  • Expertise in server side application development using Java or Go
  • Experience working in complex production environment
  • Hunger and passion in learning new technologies and constantly drive towards efficiency and simplicity in application design
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and technologies and apply them quickly to our products.
