OVERVIEW

The Fuel Cell System Engineering Advanced Technical Work Lead is responsible for the systems engineering tasks needed to develop General Motors next generation fuel cell system. The ATW SE Lead uses a systems approach to create requirement definition, identify critical interfaces, and ensure the end concept is suitable to meet the needs of a diverse set of stakeholders. The Lead System Engineer is responsible for systems-level architecture activities, as well as system risk analyses and mitigation plans.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for translating customer and stakeholder needs into precise, testable statements of observable system functional and quality of service properties.
  • Maintain and champion System Technical Specification (STS) inside of the Next Generation DOORS® environment.
  • Develop system architectural and technological options. Evaluate the approaches and select a specific architecture to be developed.
  • Use appropriate tools and activities (e.g. FTA, FMEA and DRBFM's) to identify and reduce the probability of uncertain events or maximize the potential of opportunities provided by them.
  • Allocate architectural element requirements and define element interfaces such that required system wide behaviors are achieved.
  • Plan and manage SE tasks to provide on time deliverables against the ATW timing.
  • Communicate status of SE work items to leadership throughout the ATW process.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
    • 3+ years of fuel cell engineering experience.
    • 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
    • Understanding of relevant engineering discipline fundamentals (Electrical, Chemical, and Mechanical).
    • Experience with performance and interface requirement definition.
    • System thinker: derive solutions through holistic understanding of the problem and environment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate differences of opinions and facilitate discussion as needed with collaborative multi-disciplinary teams.
    • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
    • Strong oral, graphical and written communication skills to effectively communicate issues, status and recommendations to senior management.
    • Modeling and analysis experience, comfort using modeling to support technical understanding and decision making.
    • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.
    • Familiar with requirements management tools (e.g. IBM DOORS Next Generation)

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Graduate degree in engineering with 5+ years of fuel cell experience.
    • Systems engineering degree or certification.
    • Experience leading cross-functional projects.
    • Knowledge of ISO 15288.
    • DFSS or Operational Excellence (OpEx) certification
    • Knowledge of model based system engineering (MBSE) methodologies using UML or SysML.
    • Prior risk and decision management experience reducing the probability of uncertain events and use of structured frameworks for objectively evaluating a set of alternatives.
    • Experience using design of experiments, statistical modeling methods and optimization.
